The next big Lotus event this year will be the Lotus On Track (LOT) Lotus Festival to be held at Snetterton Race Circuit over the weekend of 13/14 Jun 2009. Planning is in an early stage but as it is 20 years since the M100 Elan was launched an LEC presence is planned. There will be an attempt for a World Record for Lotus cars and a possibility of a factory visit

Thanks - half done.
It turned out to be a broken circlip at the lever end of the LH cable.
Now if I can just find another in the junkheap of mine and fit it in time, everything will be fine...

...except that I can't, so it isn't.
Anybody got any ideas of who might be open on a Saturday afternoon, who might sell honking great 39mm OD x 21mm ID circlips?
Because I'm totally stuffed without one.

Just been out to check my Halfords 'selection box' - it doesn't go that big
Can you bodge together a washer held in place with some locking wire?????
Dave
Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it
...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Good thought but I don't think I've even got any washers that size. However one of those would be easier to pick up so I'll have a go, thanks.

Lotus used a couple of varients of circlip, one style was wire the other a flat metal circlip...
I've got pictures of how to undertake a bodge a repair, but I'm a bit busy, but here's the gen in a nutshell
remove cable
remove gearbox bracket
supperglue the cracked cable housing... when it cracks it causes the circlip to fall off
put the cable through the gearbox bracket, find a clip...hose clip etc , anything clippy...
then use a load of aluminum putty over the whole lot, make sure the cable has room to travel back and forth thru the putty and will still lock on the back
wait several hours for curing and refit the cable from the front of the engine...
I'll find the pics and do a proper write up soon
Mine held for months until my AB's arrived
TTFN
If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... The N/A-Team.

No way, dude! We all see the faults in our own cars more easily than others do.
I hope you liked the crowd.
