Lotus Festival at Snetterton 13th/14th June 2009

The next big Lotus event this year will be the Lotus On Track (LOT) Lotus Festival to be held at Snetterton Race Circuit over the weekend of 13/14 Jun 2009. Planning is in an early stage but as it is 20 years since the M100 Elan was launched an LEC presence is planned. There will be an attempt for a World Record for Lotus cars and a possibility of a factory visit

Snetterton say it's an all-weekender - https://tickets.motorsportvision.co.uk/ ... uctID=3808

Club Lotus only mention the Sunday - http://www.club-lotus.co.uk/news2.php?id=109

Anyone have more info? Club Lotus mention a world record attempt for the most Lotus on track:

"In conjunction with Lipscomb Lotus and Motorsport Vision there will be an attempt to get over 500 Lotus cars in a parade around Snetterton circuit on Sunday afternoon. The previous record was set in 2007 with 313 Lotus' taking to Brands Hatch but with the longer Snetterton circuit access should be easier this time. Cars will be assembled around midday before setting off on the record attempt.

You'll need to pre-register to take part in the Lotus Festival record attempt for the Largest number of Lotus Cars in a parade. You'll then receive one email update in April, May and one week before in June keeping you abreast of event details and times."

I'm in the UK during this week it would seem...

Where's it located (part of the country and is it far from Birmingham)?

Snetterton is in Norfolk (not too far from where our Elans were created).
Roughly about 2½ hours east from Birmingham.
I've you've not been to a big meet-up before, I would definitely recommend it.

Okay, so this is going to be a great opportunity to be in the Guiness Book of Records. Club Lotus are planning to get 500 cars on the Snetterton Track at the same time on the Sunday Afternoon. I'm sure there are those of you who were at the last record of 313 Cars at Brands Hatch, who don't want to miss out on this one! You need to register for this World Record Attempt, I will post details on here as soon as I have them.

Also, if anyone is interested at doing anything at Hethel, there is already a driving day planned for the Saturday, but if we can get enough people interested Lotus might be able to accomodate us. Just a visit to the birthplace of our wonderful cars is worth it in itself (especially as it is only 10 minutes down the road!) If you're interested in this, please let me know so we have a rough idea of numbers.

As far as Accomodation goes, I have a list of Hotels nearby. This will go up on the site soon, if you need one now, just pm me.

For those stay over on the Saturday Night, did we want to orgaise a meal?

I guess some lists are going to start foruming! Forum Moderators - can we have a seperate topic like the one for Donington Please??

Thanks

Excellent Bob, also, full info including Guiness book of records signup and camping HERE

On Saturday there will be qualifying for the racing which happens on the Sunday (including the fastest man on Earth and double World Land Speed Record-holder, Wing Commander Andy Green who will be competing in a Lotus Elise, not Bloodhound SSC of course!). The World Record Attempt will also be Sunday.

Seems interesting, I missed the leaflet at Donington as I was only there for less than an hour!

Snetterton is OK, camping is usually in the centre of the track, I was there a few years back for some 24hr 2CV racing! It's cold there, as you would expect!

The parade record is good, although you will expect cars to overheat and for you to get a bit bored. A few LECers did one at Bruntingthorpe a few years back.

My Birthday is also in June, so I'm not sure if I will be around or not. Will hope to make it!

Thanks for the heads up! :D

Depends on the weather, last time I was there in June it was hot and sunny.

Most tracks are exposed and if the wind is up it can be cold. Personal experience of Snetterton was cold! :-D Lets hope it won't be!

Hi Nico. This should be a big event, last year there were 2500 people attend, and this year it should be more. I'm looking forward to seeing as many M100 owners as possible - the turnout for Donington was good and I hope this will be matched for this event with our M100's being the star of the day with the parade lap, etc. I've only been to 3 events now and it really is great mingling with other people who love our green and yellow badged cars :-)

Am I right in my interpretation of events? That the Sunday is the main day for all things LOTUS and LEC. Parade etc.?

Yes, Sunday is the big day. Saturday will hold qualifying heats for the racing on the Sunday. There will be stalls around, etc it will be like Donington was on the Sunday this year - quieter!

If you are thinking of joining the SELOC camping group, then I guess you'll arrive at some point on saturday, ready for a night of BBQ and festivities! :drunk:

Will drive to the event on Sunday morning, unless Shaun reckons my friend and I could have a good night out in the local area on the Saturday night?
