Ypres Lotus Event 13th May 2010

Our Elans were built to be driven and not all of us want to to use them on Track Days. If you use, or plan to use, your Elan as a Grand Tourer and have completed or are planning some great trips then inspire the rest of us with the details.

Yes, I am the organiser of the event. And yes I will update as soon we have more information and details.
The only thing that is fixed thats the date ... 13/05/2010 will be Ypres Lotus Day and we will do our best to take the event to a higher level.
With our 65 cars we are from the 1th edition one of the biggest Lotus events in Belgium, and our target for 2010 is 100 cars.

Last year we had one english Elise driver and he was very happy with the day. He told me it was so different from the English events he proved to come back for 2010 and bring some of his Lotus mates with him. He picked up the event from SELOC where a member of our forum posted some information. Because the intrested from him and maybe a couple of his mates we can organise a good hospitality AND arrange a special roadbook and some extra entertainment if English Lotus drivers will attend to the event but come over for the whole weekend.

Here you can see/read his report from last year: http://forums.seloc.org/viewthread.php?tid=218132
We had 65 cars at the start of the event (not 40 as he told) and with enough intrest from England we will provide an English roadbook!

More details will be available soon!

Hello LEC members!

As a small service to LEC, I attempted to translate the invitation that the lotus forum of Belgium wishes to send us all.
Please feel free to contact me for further details and I will do my best to come up with a satisfactory answer from the organization (as I just do this crappy translation)
I hope to see a lot of LEC members and thus finally have a face to match the mysterious nicknames on the forum! (trust me, the region and the locals are worth the short rip by boat or train)

Best regards,
Henk-Jan Siemer

Dear Lotus Enthusiasts!

Just like the last year we will organize our instantly famous “Lotus Forum Meeting” in the village of Ypres, in the region of “West Vlaanderen” of our beautiful Belgium.

YPRES LOTUSDAY 2010
THURSDAY MAY 13th
MEETING-POINT = the village of “IEPER” (Ypres),
“Grote Markt” (Marketplace) @ 09:30 hours.

It is again our intention to offer you a great day of driving fun and magnificent views of our beautiful region. We will present you a trail that matches perfectly with our wonderful local cuisine.

In our 2010 edition we will introduce our contesters to the history of the great war at Ieper and surroundings. There’s been some heavy combat in this front region that left lots of visible evidence of those days. (don’t forget to bring your camera)

For those participants who want to stay a couple of days longer it is possible to receive an English / Dutch road-book with lots of information about the region as well as the local history of the great war and war sites to visit. Of course the road-book contains a 2-day trail that will bring you to the most important places to visit, related to the great war at the “Westhoek” (West Corner)

If you have any questions or want more information about B&B in the region, don’t hesitate to contact me or the organization for more info.
I will keep you posted when further details become available.

Thanks for the info HJ2

Seriously thinking about doing this. Ypres (leper) is a fantastic and astonishing city. Went there a few years ago and was absolutely bowled over by the area and its history. Very emotional though, with the places you see and particularly experiencing the sounding of the last post at the Menin Gate. It brought a lump to my throat and not many things do that!

Meanwhile there are 18 UK people joining us!
Who will be joining us from LEC?

Most UK people stay in the same hotel so you will be surrounded by fellow Lotus enthusiasts.

This is from the Belgian Forum:

"Hello, just up to now there are already about 18 Uk people booked in the Best Western Hotel Ypres for this event, some of them stay just for one night others for two... there is a topic in "events" on SELOC , where you can see the ones, you'll find them in the registration list (on this forum) also... If you wish to register, pls. contact the persons mentioned (e-mail) ,
You need to give some details..full name.. number of persons- eventual nickname- phone or mobile nr.-- E mail address and type of car..."

Sounds fun!

I'll try and get there. I'm probably a problem as I'm a coeliac, which means no bread, beer or pasta for me.

That leaves plenty of other options to get drunk

Also the food, Belgian style, leaves plenty other options to have a decent meal en have a taste of the local cuisine!
I am sure if you state your wishes in time to the organisation, everything will be arranged for.

I'll have shifter repair bits with me, and Ovi has a spare clutch cable and drives around with the boot full of tools... Nothing can ruin the weekend!
