Euro breakdown cover?

Not sure if this is the right forum, but seems as appropriate as any of the others...

Does anyone know a good euro breakdown company that will cover a '91 SE? Most I've looked at have exclusions at 15 or 16 years old. I'm planning a fairly long euro trip in August and not that I'm planning to need breakdown cover, I'm not prepared to risk going without any. So who does anyone on here use/recommend?

thanks,

Jon
p.s. if anyone is interested in the trip details - we've been invited by the organisers of a microlight tour to go and play tag with them in our Lotuses:

Currently have 1 space free - PM me if you want details, but we're managing numbers via SELOC so you'd need to sign up over there.

Jon,

The 2 options i use are:-

1) Insure through Peter James (Club Lotus approved insurer) - they include European breakdown and recovery in the policy.

2) Go to GEM and see if they will do you a EEU cover - they do for me! (It's an insurance based scheme, for the person NOT the car, so will cover you as a passenger/driver in anything) - you pay at the time (by C card), send them the invoice, and a cheque arrives before the CC bill!

Thanks Dave - Guess I'd have to call GEMS as they don't mention anything about Euro cover on the website. I'm unlikely to be insuring through Peter James.

Any one else got any more ideas?

Not at all - never used them so can't comment either way. Slightly complicated to explain, so the easiest way to leave it would be to say I'm looking for a breakdown company separate from insurance as the broker I intend to use for insurance only does UK breakdown.

I know nothing about them but IC Breakdown have "No age limit on acceptable vehicles in the UK, unlike most other breakdown services!"

Thanks Martin, I've seen ADAC get good press on SELOC too so I think they're worth a call. I'll try and remember to mention you

Martin,

the ADAC cover sounds better value than its AA equivalent. However, I've looked on the translated ADAC homepage and cannot find the breakdown cover link. Could you please, in clear idiot-proof guidance, tell me where to find it? Also, how to recommend you for a pressie if I take it up?

It's only breakdown cover I need, for France & Belgium (including the Ypres Lotus day!)

Thanks for the offer HJ,

I have bought some cover from the AA. I do have some help - we are coming over with our friends Kevin and Jo; Kevin has worked for Lotus for years, and if you look on the ex-employees photo elsewhere on this LEC website, he is the 12th head from the left. Hopefully his knowledge will not be tested.
