I'll be taking my Red one over the channel in the very near future,
What with all the rules that have changed since I last went , what do I really need to take ?
and what about the head lamps ?

The worst bit is France
You really need two reflective vests,accessible from inside the car.
Warning triangle.
Spare bulb kit(I just chucked some spare bulbs in a box)
TWO breathalizers
Headlamp stickers( I just stuck some insulating tape cut in a nice pattern on the main beam lamps)
GB plate if you haven't got Euro numberplates

Can confirm Dave's list is correct. Took old S4 last year to France with same kit, no problems but do wonder how a sealed beam is classed and whether I am supposed to carry a spare!!! NA for M100 though.

I do tend to buy the proper lens things though as they divert the beam rather than block it.
I always put my GB sticker on passenger side of car so it is always in front of the driver of any car behind (unless its a brit car of course)

Continental cover is already included in my normal cover .

well really this is a bit OTT is this just for the English

I'll have a look for a kit, somebody's bound to have cashed in on all this palaver

Don't suppose anyone does a head lamp deflector for the M100

I used to use tank tape on my Westfield, bugger to get off though


Oh and I've just noticed my MOT has just run out ho hum

The French law 'requires' 1 breathalyser, but 'sugests' 2 - they come in a twin pack at halfrauds for about 6 or 7 quid, and they sell them on the ferries....

...the theory being that if you use a b-test, and pass, you can still drive home as you still have one in the car - however, if you only have one, and pass, then you can't drive 'cos you don't have a breathalyser on you!!!

Depending on where you go, you may need (or at least 'recomend') a first-aid kit and a fire extinguisher

You can buy lamp deflectors on the ferry, did this last year when I went to Le Mans for the 24 Hours race. We found the link below useful for travel in France

There seems to have been some sort of fudge about the breathalyzer issue. You have to carry one, but can't be fined for not having one... duh! Probably easier to pacify gendarmes, rather than arguing the toss. http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/ov ... -2012.html

Yes. If you're Scottish you're required to carry 3

It is a pain but it's easier to comply than argue the toss with a stroppy gendarme

Lucas do bulb kits and one is suitable for the elan. It has both h1 and h4 bulb in it. Costs about 19 pounds with 6 bulbs and a fuse. Bought one last week. Part no llz09 or something like that!

We've brought our breathlyser kit on Amazon 2 units only £3.99.

FredJohn, can you give more info on the bulb kit. Did you buy on-line etc.

Bought it from local shop Leamoco in Leamington Spa for about £19. But just checked Amazon and its priced at £7.85 plus delivery but "only 2 left"
