In the case of a govenrment document, I think they want you to use something like Adobe Reader to print the document exactly as they sent it. When you scan it back, you can use a print to PDF utility like PrimoPDF or similar free utility. That way you are sure they have a reader on hand that can open your attachment. A lot of people don't know how to handle a graphic file when they are looking for a PDF.

You could get really tricky and edit the PDF with a program like Adobe Acrobat or Nitro and drop a graphic scan of your signature into the document so you don't have to print it or re-scan it at all.

You might also look into scrounging an older HP Laserjet 4, 4+ or 5. They are outrageously cheap, work well in a network if you buy a cheap print port or you can just use a standard printer cable and print directly to it. The cartridges are expensive from HP but everyone offers affordable replacements and the extended use cartridge usually lasts me 4 years - and I print reams of paper every month, so it works out to less than $25.00 a year. The most common problem with these printers is the rollers get hard but you can buy roller kits for less than $15.00. As long as you see it print before you buy, they are work horses and reasonable to maintain.

Use the laser for all B/W printing and save the colour printer for things that need the colour ink.

I'm astonished that a Govt Department would request this action from you, as I understood it they are still wary of the legality of a photocopied signatures, are you sure its kosher?

Thanks Pete,

It's only the C*mmunicat**ns Ombu*sm*n ... I hadn't spelled it out thinking someone might get mis-directed here for nothing.

It's for someone I'm helping out ... He had already signed the form and I had sent it back as a picture but because we had altered a detail on the form it needs doing again.

They didn't complain about the method, it just struck me there might be a better way of doing it.

John,

Thank you for that, I shall have to study it ...see if I can download the program you mention and come back later with more questions.

Has anyone got time to read two sides of A4 and tell me what they make of it.

It's a letter from a government body to a friend of mine ... I'd like an unbiased opinion.

Thank you

Whilst I can't guarantee anything (especially being unbiased!) I am happy to take a squint if you want me to, Ray.

Ray,

All arrived safely - I've had a brief flick through to get my mind arround the general gist of the issues.

I'll give it some proper thought tomorrow and be in touch asap.

Personally, I'd open it in Acrobat Writer, attach a picture of my signature, print it as a pdf and e-mail it. 8)

No paper. No ink. No electricity for the scanner. Nowt wrong with a 3310........ what colour is yours Ray?

There you go Geoff,

I've just realised they had "keypad tones" even when the phone was turned off ... each button has its own peculiar creak!

Re: An electronic question ...

You’re looking at the back of a bathroom mirror which has LED lights dotted down each side, in line with the white metal back frame.

What will the wired item be attached to the card on the back of the glass?

While some models have a walk past sensor ... this one doesn’t ... as far as I know ... it does have a proximity switch on the side to turn the lights on and off with a swipe of the hand.

Thank you

I hadn't thought of that Niall, it would make sense the way it covers the whole glass

Thanks,

XBox 360

Postby RayD » Tue 26.11.2013, 22:00

My son is selling a boxed Xbox 360 and associated items should anyone be interested before they go on eBay.

While on the eBay subject, has anyone found an alternative auction site that works well?
