Postby abmunro » Sat 15.05.2010, 17:55

I have 6 meg broadband if I plug straight in with Ethernet cable

I sometimes get it with wireless

Recently I have started getting message IP address conflict and the internet running at 208kbps ( very slow )

We have 3 laptops running from same Netgear Wireless Router.

How can I resolve this?

Sounds like an issue with your routers DHCP server. Log into the router settings and see what's going on.

Tony,
Have you tried the standard Help Desk approach of turning it off and turning it on again? ie re=boot the wireless router. This sometimes can sort out slow broadband problems and resolve ip conflicts.

You can specify an IP address for each of your laptops that is outside of your DHCP server. Most netgears are using 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.100 so if you set the laptops to .101 .102 and .103 you would avoid the ip conflicts.

If you need instructions o how to do this just shout.

IP Address conflict means your router has handed out a local IP address to one of the machines and another machine is set to use the same address.
All of the machines should be set to Obtain IP Address Automaticaly and Obtain DNS Servers Automatically.
The settings are applied to each connection so the wired connection and wireless connections have to be set individually.
On XP: Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Right-click on Local Area Connection > Left Click Properties > Double Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) V4
Radio both of the Obtain IP Automatically and Obtain DNS Automatically. OK your way out.
Do the same for the Wireless Connection.
Check all of the connections on all of the machines -- one of them is almost certainly manually setting an IP Address and that is causing the conflict.
Good luck.
