Prototypes and Preproduction

Postby Specky » Tue 12.10.2010, 17:05

Only if I had Eight grand now that'd be the car to get.

Out of intrest, I own I.B.3 (6102), Would it get a mention in any of your paperwork?

Other owners on the site are I.B.4 and I.B.5 and one of the real early prototypes.

hoping you have a quick sale...

Prototypes and Preproduction

Postby timlot » Tue 12.10.2010, 17:13

Not sure if 6102 is referred to, there was a lot of research done by Lotus on this car to confirm its orginality for the last owner (of ten years), apparently there were 42 produced before mine that weren't registered, they were just used for testing etc. I think one or two others were mentioned in the reams of paperwork, I'll have a look and let you know.

Prototypes and Preproduction

Postby Specky » Tue 12.10.2010, 17:41

Many thanks...

The oldest Elan I'm aware of is the Lotus Zante ( I guess a code name) chassis 601 IIRC.

there was a claim that this was the London show car, But it could be the Toyko show car. (it was for sale on eBay a few months back)

Don't take what I say as gospel, because I'm no where 100% positive.

Technically speaking it would make yours the oldest registered Elan I know of. I know the boys at Hethel archives are very good and the history of the Elan really intrests me.

Anyway I digress, I hope all goes well.

Here are the early cars that are still around after 21 years :-

601 Zante London Motor Show car (Claims to be the motorshow Main show car as well)
PP14 London Motor Show car (On the turntable)
PP15 London Motor Show car (On the floor)
I.B.1 (SCC100ZT1LHD16100, G887CLD) (A possible claim to be the motorshow car as well, but I have no evidence to back this up, I have with PP14 & PP15)
I.B.2 was hiding under our noses all the time... More to follow 14th July 2014
I.B.3
I.B.4
I.B.5
Press Car

601 and PP14 are the same car in my opinion:-

PP14 is definately F664 DNG, cross ref that with the bible, F664 DNG is chassis 601

If you recall Lotus selling the Hethel collection, these are the prices that they went for.(Look at Lot 100 onwards)

Yep, It's in Holland...

If you attended the Club Lotus show at Malvern this year you would have seen a load of silver Aluminum Lotus Seven style vehicles (opposite our stand). The owner of them owns the M200, an M250, an ETNA M90... I can't recall the dutch man's name at the moment.

You should know better than to ask a simple question to me....

I know the where abouts of the Silver car...

It's PP 14 and it's for sale... :-D

Clicky

I can only give an educated guess on the red one, my guess would be PP 12 or I.B.4.

PP12 was destined for Isuzu to coincide with the 1989 Toyko motorshow, Lotus took another car over there as well...(PP 13)

I.B.4 came off the production line line slightly early in the October of 89 IIRC, but wasn't registered till the November...

But in all honesty, who knows...

Here are some other videos that you may have seen before, but I like the French show of the time:-

http://www.streetfire.net/video/lotus-e ... 062497.htm

oh well...
