I have owned seven different LOTUS cars and apart from the M100 I have at the moment the Excel was an excellent drive and very reliable , all Toyota running gear of course. I think the brakes and front suspension was the same as the early Supra .

I owned a late model SE for 7 years. Loved it to bits. Will probably need a bit of TLC today but the later the better. A very underrated car in my opinion.Watch out for the Nickosil liners as they can wear.Needs cam belt every 2 years but not hard to do,unlike a M100!Door beams & window frames seem to be the current problem areas. Doors drop as hinges can wear.

Definetly Masterpiece. The last car Chapman has his Hands on (Elite) and with the lastest Evolution the best value of all.

Lotus style, Lotus handling, Lotus engine, Chapmans genius, what do you need more? :) Buy it!

Hi
I agree the Excel is a much under rated beast just like the M100. I have had 4 ranging from an early car to the last spec.

Just to add my bit of info the front suspension was not Toyota it was all Lotus very similar to the Esprit. Gearbox, Diff, Brake callipers (same as Toyota although made by Bendix I think) door handles inner and outer, and upper steering column with switch gear was Toyota and that is about it for Toyota parts.

Cheers Mike

Have owned my '87 SE excel for 12 years. Will never sell it. Fantastic car, worth relatively little on the used car market (which I was why I'll never sell it), but the driving experience? Priceless. Best balanced car I've ever owned/driven.
