I was talking about new brake pipes with a brake specialist today, he recommended after changing the pipes, use DoT 5, apparently many people driving classics use it. I was a bit surprised so had a quick trawl on the internet. Found these: ... show&id=70 ... rake-fluid ... anical/584

It would seem from these articles that if you are installing a completely rebuilt brake system, with components assembled using DoT 5, then DoT 5 is OK.

Otherwise, as has been said many times on this forum, stick to the recommended stuff. The thought of sludge in my brake system does not fill me with confidence.
