Set of Winter Wheels Anyone? - NOW SOLD

Postby Artaban » Sat 01.11.2014, 15:07

I'm selling a set of SE S1 wheels that I bought from PX Wheels on the 5th November 2012 (receipt for £330 supplied). PX Wheels were moving premises and so I was able to buy a refurbished set outright without returning my own. They have been on the car since then but have only done 3,392 miles and are in excellent condition with no scuffs or scrapes. The wheels are not buckled and run true. I'm selling them with 4 Uniroyal Rainsport 2 tyres all with between 5-6mm tread on them. The tyres are also free of any scuffs, flat spots etc and were purchased 18.02.2010 (receipt available). You can see a review of the tyre here:

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Uniro ... port-2.htm

I found them exceptional in the wet and never found their limit in the dry. This may suit someone who uses their car all year round and wants a winter set of wheels that can handle the rain as they'll be a lot safer than some of the soft summer compounds.

I want £250 for them with postage on top. I live in Chester but I'm prepared to travel and meet anyone within a reasonable distance. Not sure of the postage costs but if you are interested PM me your location and I will find out.

To inspire other Elan owners, I bought a set of SE wheels with winter tyres about a year ago because I intend to use my car throughout the year. I haven't actually used the winter set yet, but intend to have the wheels painted gunmetal matt black so that I can run the car with different coloured wheels at different times of the year. I hope that doesn't sound too decadent (or naff). I'll post pictures of the winter wheels once I have had them painted and have fitted them to the Elan (I hope that they fit over the Vectra/Subaru brake combo).

I don't think the 15inch SE wheels will fit over the vectra calipers, they are quite a bit bigger than the HiSpecs and they only just got

Love to attach some pics but having resized them all to 640x480 I get the following error appear

Could not upload attachment to ./files/3608_72284bdabe913f00ef606045ef72c03e.

Any ideas?

To be honest 640 x 480 isn't going to be a high enough resolution if someone wants to examine these wheels in detail. It would be better if I email over high res pics to anyone interested. Its likely that I'll post these from PNM Engineering as they can get cheaper courier costs than I can so you can always ask Peter or John for a second opinion on them before you pay any money. I can confirm they will come with the centre caps and chrome valve covers. Thanks.

I put RW2 up in the air today for the first time, one reason being to see if the 15" SE wheels fit over the calipers, and they do.Below are two photos of the calipers, which I believe to be from a Vectra.

Artaban, I hope I haven't taken over your thread. My intention was to encourage others to buy your wheels! Just to let you know that I set my camera to 3M or 5M picture size when taking Elan pictures, and upload them to a 'public' folder in Photobucket. I then select 'Share Links' in Photobucket, and click on 'IMG'. This puts a link into my clipboard which I simply paste into my posting like I have done below.

No problem Rusty I've done what you suggested. Thanks. Pics of the wheels attached. I've taken a pic of each wheel and the back of one of them (all the backs are in the same condition).

IMPORTANT POST 'HIJACK'.....

...these wheels WILL NOT fit over a Vectra big brake (or any other upgrade other than one which is designed for 15" OE wheels).

The brakes as pictured (in good faith) by RB are NOT the V6 Vectra/Subaru upgrade....

.... a fuller explanation is on Rustys thread if you want to read it,
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

I have found these tyres absolutely brilliant on the cold and wet roads. Really enjoying the Elan in winter, despite it being a project car and its down to the tyres making all the difference.
I had to down grade the HiSpec 4 pot racing callipers and AP Racing disks with custom bells to the usual HighSpec brake kit to get the 15" wheels on:
so braking isn't as brutal as before, (but sill adequate for normal road use) so I haven't tested the tyres with big 4 pot callipers.

Now I need to find the missing horses....
