Rocking Horse s**t for sale (S2 wheels + good tyres)

Postby AndyH » Tue 14.07.2015, 08:13

Finally retiring my car. It's bit tired - needs a rest. I'm flogging the S2 wheels with tyres on eBay this Friday so this is a heads up - unless somebody wants to make me an over-inflated offer on here before I list them. No pictures yet but they're in great condition.

Nardi steering wheel will also be getting flogged in due course. Keep 'em peeled.

By retiring, do you mean scrapping?
And does this mean breaking for parts yourself?
If so that sounds like a shame - are you sure it's beyond saving?
Striking fear into the hearts of duplicate posts everywhere...! :P

:agree:

Surely it may be worth something to someone in a whole condition to restore?

It's not beyond saving but I don't have a garage unfortunately and without a place to do I'm not sure how I'd achieve the job. I'd probs need the engine out for an overhaul..the turbo too...the steering rack... It's also got no interior trim/carpets, only one seat and a rather knackered paint job. I see shiny, garaged examples on autotrader etc and it'd be far less hassle to just buy another down the line. This isn't an easy decision though! I've had it since '02...I'll be happy to break the car for the good bits that anybody wants, hence the wheels and steering wheel will be the first to go as I know how hard it was for me to get the S2 alloys in the first place so they'll please somebody! I could sell the whole car I guess as I have the original OZ wheels still. Hmm....

You're now making me re-think my decision! haha...

I think neal meant "why not selling it whole as a restoration project?"

some of us would be willing to tackle the job.

I'd be happy to sell the car as a whole if I thought I could get a reasonable price but I'm not sure I would. I've got all the old-school mod's - peco exhaust, wilwood brakes, replacement hood in good condition, nardi wheel... I'm likely to make more by flipping the parts. I can't ignore the economics unfortunately.

Hi Andy - sent you a PM, interested in the car as a project, keen to know how much you'd accept... Rob

Thanks Rob. I'll reply tomorrow because I'm a tad busy this evening. To all others - the wheels are now listed on eBay

sold for £1,500. I still don't get what the fuss is all about with S2 wheels, personally I prefer the se wheels. Still I assume someone will be a happy bunny somewhere 8)

I'm the happy bunny! I like the SE wheels too but the S2 ones just edge it for me. I'm viewing them as a 1500 quid savings account. I can always sell them and I don't see why they'd lose any value. That's my logic anyway!

I think that part of the fuss is that you'll get a 16" wheel with the correct offset which enables you to use a brake upgrade with bigger discs / calipers

Are there no aftermarket manufacturers that make wheels with the required offset for our cars, 60mm is it?

They do, but only built to order.
By memory that's about 650 quid per wheel, so even the bloody expensive S2 wheels are still a lot cheaper than that. Also i believe that the S2 wheels are forged, and the after market built to order are milled from a solid block of aluminum. This makes the S2 wheels lighter or stronger at the same weight. :bonk:
