S2 Wheel FOR SALE - AS NEW CONDITION

Postby paulous » Sat 25.07.2015, 21:02

Original S2 Wheel for sale.

Genuine BBS Lotus Elan S2 original wheel.

No need to explain how rare these are!

I bought this a few years ago when I had my Elan , which I sold last year. It's been sitting in my garage for the last year and the recent spree of S2 wheels selling on eBay for extremely good money prompted me to get my finger out and sort this wheel out.

I've just had it completely professionally refurbished, hence it's AS NEW original condition. It is absolutely spotless, completely straight, in absolutely original condition. I picked it up from the wheel refurb last week.

No centre cap. No tyre - I did ponder over fittigng a new tyre and selling for more but decided to leave this up to the new owner as tyres are a personal choice.

I thought I'd offer it to an LEC member before putting it on eBay. If nobody wants it I'll put it on eBay next week.

£400, no offers. I'll include shipping by a specialist wheel courier in the price, or you can collect in person from Hitchin, Herts.

Payment by Paypal transfer, or if you want to collect, cash in person.

Please PM me - first to PM & pay secures it. I'll ship on Monday if it sells quickly once payment is received.

Thanks,

Paul

If you take a photo of your bent wheel in 'the offending' pothole and send it to the Council Highways Dept responsible for maintaining that road, along with a polite but firm letter saying you will take them to the Small Claims Court 'for failing to adequately maintain the road' you should get the cost of a new wheel, and tyre if damaged. I got a new wheel for my Eclat paid by Lincolnshire CC at the end of the previous century.

Small Claims Court limit is now £10,000 so that should just about cover an S2 wheel..

Councils are now well aware of claims against them, both true and false, and have wised up. They will not take heed of a threat and will challenge you and force you down the SC procedure.

I knocked my head against a brick wall :banghead: with the very useless Dumfries and Galloway council for over a year and got nothing despite them being aware of the pothole. I say pothole rather tongue in cheek as it was over 27 feet in length, 18 inches wide and over 3" deep. More like a cratur than a pothole

Best of luck with your claim :!:

I sympathise with you. The state of our roads is abysmal. Makes you wonder why we pay OTT for our car taxes !!

I suspect your council will say that they were not aware of this pothole as the road has been routinely inspected by them and they are going to attend to it niw as a priority. This is their usual cop out !!

Don't forget that you will require a full steering, geometry and re-alignment check so add this to your claim

If the Council are aware of this pothole you have a valid claim against them as they have done nothing to repair it. Their cop out is if they weren't aware of it (and so haven't allocated a number to it) and can prove they inspect the road at reasonable intervals. Go to http://www.potholes.co.uk if you want to know how to claim. It'll take time and they'll give you the run around but just check whether they were aware of it first. I wouldn't bother if they claim to know nothing about it.

I've consulted potholes.co.uk and also Money Saving Expert as they both have detailed how-to's.

Just need to find the time to get the work done. Fingers crossed that an alloy wheel refurber can straighten her out otherwise I could be in for a wait to get a replacement.

My big concern is it is smack bang on a county boundary that crosses the road at virtually that exact point... So no doubt I'll get bounced from one to the other neither taking responsibility.

When I hit a similar pothole I took my wheel to an engineering company as it was beyond what a wheel refurber could do. I found the engineering company after asking around several of the tyre fitters and when I arrived they had a pile of them in the corner so they could work on them between jobs. Though they managed to get mine round again they said the large offset meant it had also distorted from front to back as well. When on a tyre balancing machine and viewed from above the wheel moves in and out to the point where it would probably cause vibration or not be capable of being balanced. They couldn't correct that without weakening the wheel so I had to get a new one and then get them all re-powder coated again to match the colour.

Ever since I've kept a keen eye out for potholes but the Dorset roads have to be some of the worst in the country. When I lived in Dumfries and Galloway it was nowhere near as bad and Chester/North Wales was better still but you can't go more than a few yards on a Dorset country road without a cavernous wheel bending chasm appearing in front of you.

I hope you get it sorted.

BUMP! I still have this wheel if anyone is interested. I now have a centre cap to go with it, it's not perfect but its better than no centre cap.

The wheel itself is in AS NEW condition. I had it completely professionally refurbished, which included straightening it 100%, stripping it right back to the bare metal and finishing in the original BBS colour, all to a very very high standard. The refurb alone cost £120.

I'm willing to drop the price to £350, which now includes a centre cap and shipping by a specialist wheel courier , or you can collect in person from Hitchin, Herts.

I haven't seen another single S2 wheel for sale in a very long time (except for the full set on eBay currently - but thats a full set)

Thanks,

Paul - call if interested 07976 745388 , or PM me.

That was almost 2 years ago - all spares would have gone with it in a private sale, but I couldn't sell it privately (after 4 months of trying on LEC) and in the end I sold it through a Lotus Dealer who obviously took a large commission, insisted on doing various pieces of work before agreeing to put it up for sale (at my cost), with the end result being I got far less than I really wanted for the car. I did let quite a few spares and accessories go with the car but this wheel needed refurbing so it stayed in my garage... until last year when I decided to get it refurbed. Sold now though :rally: .

The only 'spares' I now have are the old cat and precat and a couple of used hood seals (can't rember which now, I'd have to dig in the garage).... if anyone is interested. The cats would be too heavy to post though.

Pity you couldn't have sold it through LEC at the time Paulous :( Quite a few are shifting through LEC these days

Incidentally, did you sell it to Allon White down in Bedfordshire ? If so, I was driving past and caught a glimpse of a nice shiny NMY. Stopped and spoke to the dealer. Sorely tempted at the time but he didn't want a trade in. Tried to talk me into a Morgan instead

Yep! Allon White. They did all my servicing and also installed roof seals for me when I owned the car. Generally I was very happy with them and would recomend them. Just a shame I had to resort to them to sell the car , it's good business for them but not so good financially as the seller :(
