anyone selling a Cat for a series 1 SE?

They have been on the sell-down list at Lotus for a long time: F100S0024F £170.51

I can confirm they fit properly on a FED model. If you order from a Lotus Dealer near you in Germany, there should be no shipping to you as you can then collect it in person.

You probably need Downpipe B100S0061F which is £22.60

Mark: unless I have misunderstood this thread and his others, texas2201 didn't have a cat on his car originally, but possibly does need to fit one to get it through German TUV (MOT) requirements. According to one post, Germany introduced cats on all new build from 1989, which would mean any Elans sold in Germany would have to have one fitted ex-factory.

The price of taking his UK Elan to Germany permanently seems to be escalating beyond economic sense, but then whoever bought a Lotus to be sensible?

Yes. It was £217.19 in 2015, down to £129.17 in 2016, but Lotus has been increasing all of their prices every 3 months or so. That is all the history I have.

The lowest cost one on eBay UK is http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RSJBM90324-Ex ... 2732337264 and is 95.85 but it is an aftermarket replacement.

The original CAT was made by Walker in the US.

Lotus doesn't publish their parts prices but I usually get a copy of the huge spreadsheet when they send dealers a new one.

DeRoure has always been current with the prices, so you can type in the part number in the search box and open the page to get the price or notice that the part has been discontinued:

The V.# helps to identify the vintage, ie V.2 is the oldest and does not have a linked index, V.6 is newer and has chapter bookmarks, V.8 is the newest and also has bookmarks. V.7 is a pretty poor copy but it has extra pages and notes added that help identify substitutions and individual components of items Lotus only sold as assemblies (like the ignition coils with the ICM and some breakdown of injector components for example).

Find the part number in the parts lists, then go to DeRoure and get the current MSRP.

Correct and the pain just keeps getting worse and now I probably need to buy winter tyres for it.......... arghhh

My Elan spent some time in Germany, it must have been a while as it had to be re-registered when it came back to the UK (so it must've changed to German plates?). It has no CAT. (I only know that form looking through the docs that came with it)

Also, AFAIK, the spec for cars should be standard across the EU, if it didn't need a cat in the UK when it was new it shouldn't need one for Germany. Unless it's some retrospective thing they've applied, but that seems unlikely as a lot of cars of that age still had carbs and no electronic control which would make running a CAT difficult.

cheers Bern - TUV are looking for emissions values which are only available for cars with a cat - I have asked them the question and I am awaiting their response - possibly your car was on a special technical TUV

Normally that is the situation - but I brought it out for a few weeks - hit a deer - discovered I had let the MOT run out at the end of Aug!!!! and the Ins Co are saying I need to get a German Roadworthy cert... a TUV hence all the pain

Looks like I don't need this as TUV said they will accept the paperwork from Lotus fingers cross that this is the case and that something has not been lost in translation

so brakes sorted - new rear caliper hardware kit ordered - winter project number XX. Headlights and pod delay relay sorted, rear chassis and vin number rubbed down so it is legible, Lotus paperwork arrived, drop link fitted.....so in theory all good for the re-TUV - so will make an appointment tomorrow. However, two inches of snow and summer tyres could be a problem.

UK Insurer Engineer talking to German Ins Assessor and say the claim will be settled next week
