S2 window regulator help

Hi All,

I am in serious need of a drivers door S2 window regulator, the infamous Sparky over on TLF has my S2 and is running through it ( I have buried my head in the sand stuck my fingers in my ears and I am singing la,la,la,la loudly as it needs a fair bit, but in for penny) Sparky stripped out the old one sent to PNM but it is alas buggered.

Anyone got any leads of where to find one

you should be posting this in the wanted section of the forum.

have you checked SJS yet ? that would have been my first point of call. even if im not intending to buy a new one, i would at least check to know if new can be found and how much it would cost.

DVB = Douglas Valley Breakers. commonly known as "steveStrange" on ebay not particularly famous for selling bargains tho.

Thanks chaps, jaysus SJS that is an awful lot of cash if it has to be done then then so be it, can someone please move this to the wanted section for me. Will continue my search, I have heard of DVB and I have seen his prices. I am guessing Gerald might be worth a call to.

best bet to confirm that would be the parts manual/guide.

if the part number is the same betwen the SE and S2 manuals, you will be 100% sure its the same.
within my ignorant position. i would assume they are the same but that is just a gues.

That isn't an M100 window regulator. It is for a type 132.

They offer but a rebuild service for £150.00 and you send them your old regulator.

The regulators are almost ALWAYS rebuildable, so that is what should be researched. Cables, gears and the cable tensioners are available from several sources, especially Wayne.

I am of little help to you as I am in the US and postage to and from will make it more expensive, but a lot of owners have rebuilt their own, so maybe one of them will offer his opinion of what is really wrong.

ALL of the normal broken bits are available from myself or Wayne and the cable is standard 2mm as used for overhead garage doors. Standard crimps. You have to basically put the cable thru the housings before you can crimp the ends, but once you figure it out, it isn't too bad. I had an owner drive over with his "unrepairable" regulator and I had it back together in around 30 minutes. (I do have a bit of experience with them now.)

Find out exactly what is wrong with it as it would need for the motor to be burned out before it was DOA. It is a Peugeot part and there are repair kits on eBay as well as several discussions about how to convert a new one to fit the M100.

I have a few cores here and a new R/S unit but fairly expensive and usually they can be fixed for significantly less.

There is also a listing on eBay UK for a TOYOTA regulator that looks similar that the seller is claiming to be a replacement for an M100, but I never heard of it before today.

First things first, What is wrong with yours? Can you supply any pictures? LEt's take it one step at a time...

It comes up if you do a random non-model related search, but if you define the Elan (1989 on), only the rebuild exchange version appears.

Search on the Evora as well and up it pops, just like any window regulator should

Thanks John. I have just backtracked and found out where I went wrong. I typed all the relevant info in the 1st of the boxes rather than preselect the Elan (1989 onwards) box as I normally do when I use Steve for spares

Chaps Wayne has been in touch, totally out of blue today, I have put him in touch with Sparky as it is all way above and beyond me,

I can’t thank you all enough to be honest, the car was meant to be going on the lotus stand for the 70th but I think that has been and gone now I have let Bibs know. To be fair I think there are better ones out there but I will get it there just not in the time scales.

Hi Dan - take a look at the Windows Mechanism Question trail. i replaced both my regulators with Peugeot 405 ones... they fit well. its the messing about with the cables that is the faff... but doobale. No further problems and the windows glide up.. none of the usual jerkiness. M

No disrespect intended - but,

If his only problem is cables, he will have to mess with them regardless and currently, 405 regulators are bringing around 60quid and most on eBay are the later versions (they look different, so are they compatible?).

Since the up/down control is by current limiting, the odds of the actual motor being burned out is slim, so better to spend 15 quid for the parts needed and rebuild what he has.

If he needs the torque spring bits at the end of the outer cables, I can make replacements in either plastic or aluminum as can any hobbyist machinist.

Let me or Wayne know what you actually need and I am sure parts are available.

Sounds sensible... no argument from me. Mine fitted v well.. and still going strong after 2 years. The cable swapping bit is a faff.. I've done it soooo many times now..sad to say I almost made it a hobby! M

Does anyone have experience of fiddling with the cable on the window regulator? (silly question I guess)
I have sourced a second hand motor from a peugeot 405 (rear door as I assumed less use). The cable needs shortening and the crimped end reattached.
The old motor had eaten itself internally (rubber bushes disintegrated) and on disassembly to investigate, the wire lost tension. I am trying to avoid that happening on the 'new' motor while disconnecting from the 405 regulator channel and shortening the cable. I would also appreciate advice on attachment of the crimped end.
