Sad news about Roland Halliday (inkitin)

Postby inkitin » Fri 25.07.2014, 11:29

We are very sorry to say that on Thursday 23rd July 2014 Roland Halliday (inkitin) passed away.

In life he was incredibly generous, funny and bright, a very selfless man who couldn't do enough for anyone. He was a wonderful husband and a brilliant father. My mother, sister and I love him very much and will miss him terribly. We have many fantastic memories to treasure and I know that many of you who have met him, and perhaps even those of you who have not, will have some stories of your own.

The Elan was one of dad's greatest joys and his most treasured possession and his involvement in this community meant the world to him. Over the years he has particpated in convoys to Donington, across the Isle of Man, weddings, treasure hunts and I know that the sight of a convoy of Elans absolutely delighted him.

We think that an honour guard convoy of Elans at his funeral would be a moving tribute to Roland. We know that he would be overwhelmed if one of his greatest joys in life were to form part of his procession. As a family we would be extremely grateful to anyone who would like to take part in making his funeral memorable and special in a way that would really mark his passing. All of you are welcome to attend his funeral and wake if you are able to. We don't yet have a date but expect it will be week commencing 4th August 2014.

If anyone is interested in attending please post on this thread and we'll be in touch with details by PM.

Really shocking news and what a sad loss, you really couldn't have wished to have met a nicer fellow, myself and my son Matthew met Roland and we travelled down to Donington together, he also looked after us when we met for a couple of other Lotus events and he made us both feel very welcome within the LEC forum.

So sad to hear this news, if there is a requirement for cars for a parade of honour then count me in

My deepest condolences go out to you and your family at this sad time, he was a true Gent and will be missed by many

Oh no, not Roland!

I am gutted to read this.

Roland was always a pleasure to meet and chat to.
I was even looking forwards to seeing him at the MLOC meeting this weekend.

Words absolutely fail me. :(

Please let us know when the funeral will be - I will do my very best to be there.

So sorry.

I'm so sorry to hear this, Roland was a fantastic guy and always had time for his fellow Elaners. I feel very sad to hear this, I remember Roland most from the trip to the IOM where he was great company. It's unlikely that I'll be able to make his funeral. If the family would like some flowers sent perhaps we could have the details posted.
Could the 'Hokey-Cokey' actually be what it's all about?

Condolences to the family at this difficult time.

Like many on here, I would count Roland not only as a fellow enthusiast, but as a true friend.

Memories of IOM, Donington, Nick & Kims' wedding, and many other occassions are some of the best trips we've had out in the elan, all helped along with a cheerful smile and a question of "Shall we have another bottle of red?" from Roland.

We would really like to attend his funeral. However we are away on honeymoon from the 6th. If indeed we can make it I'm afraid my Lotus won't be there. He would understand.

On a side note- In my kneck of the woods we shorten ''Isn't it'' to ''Int'it''. However, myself and Jayne changed it to ''Intikin''. He never knew this. I think he took to me because I'm odd.

Thank you for letting us all know the sad news about Roland.
Such a wonderful, happy, sociable gentleman.

We only met up once, when I visited the UK. He kindly drove down to meet up at Cubley Hall in Penistone.

I am sure that everyone on the LEC will miss him dearly. I really hope that a lot of the members in the UK that knew him can make up a convoy of Elans for the funeral.
I am sorry that I will be unable to attend as I and my Elan are a few thousand miles from the UK, in Bahrain.

My condolences to you and all of his family.
