Will you be driving down near Stafford on the Friday ? My car is still not back from the paint shop nor are the bits i need to be fitted done. I feel this will be its maiden voyage. I guess better it be Stafford to Combe than Stafford to Torquay and then back up to Combe.

Ps i do have breakdown cover. Any issues car goes back to Stafford.

I can meet at the campsite to join the convoy. Or I may be running late, which is usually the case, and whizz down the M4 instead.

So will Clemo’s car be ready or not?

In the absence of anyone planning anything, I've had a squint at all information availible (Google maps, and Jonathans' post elsewhere) - it appears to be a 22 minute run of about 11.5 miles from campsite to circuit.

The event 'starts' at 0900, but those who are going 'on track' need to get there a little earlier to get the registration/noise testing/briefing done (although time is usually on our side at this track due to the efficiency of everyone involved).

Also, i would like to be there a tad earlier to try and get things set up for our pitch.

As such, I will be intending to leave the campsite by 0800 hours. (there are car-wash facilities at the circuit - well, standpipes anyway - bring your own bucket and sponge!) for those who like to look their best.

If these timings fit in with anyone else, then feel free to join up for the drive in (either at the campsite, or somewhere en route). The route takes us (me?) very close to J17 M4 near Hullavington airfield, so anyone who doesn't wish to drive up to Burton can be met somewhere suitable. (Jonathan, any suggestions as to a suitable lay-by etc :poke: ).

I've no doubt that those of us camping will be awake by early o'clock due to the high winds and lashing rain (or birdsong carried on the warm dawn air), so maybe an RV time of 0745 for a get away as close to 0800 as we are capable of????

I would suggest that our local man (Saltire) leads us in, otherwise I'll get lost and try to go a route that doesn't allow motor vehicles to pass (yes, they do exist round the circuit).

[the really boring/disclaimer/legal bit]
This is merely a suggested route from one location to another. people are free to follow the car in front, or not, as they see fit. It is not any form of a time trial, race, or other competition. It is in the form of a 'Navigational Rally' which is exempt from motorsport governance. It in no way impacts upon 'normal' UK insurance policy restrictions. Each driver is responsible for their own actions, as with any other road driving scenario - just because the car in front goes for an overtake, you cannot assume that it is safe for you to blindly follow without first satisfying yourself that it is safe to do so.
[/the really boring/disclaimer/legal bit]

There are a few 'common sence' comments (I don't like to call them rules) for convoy driving, but I'll mention them on the day - nowt which anyone shouldn't do anyway on any drive, but worthy of reitteration, and nothing which should come as a surprise to anyone.

so, with that all in mind... does anyone want to join in? (otherwise it'll be a very short convoy of 1).

If I might be so bold . . . May I suggest that we meet in the lower part of the Waitrose car park (Malmesbury SN16 9FS for those with sat-navs). It’s very close to the campsite and there’s plenty of room - plus the store opens at 07:30, so there’s time for a coffee or bacon butty beforehand if you wish. Waitrose is on the A429 just north of the roundabout junction with the B4042 and about 7 miles north of M4 J17. The only lay-by in that part of the world is usually full of workmens cars at present, due to the local council messing around with . . . Oops, sorry, enhancing . . . the J17 road layout.

Happy to lead the way through the back roads, but I can never remember which entrance it is once we get to the circuit, so feel free to hoot and shout from the rear once we arrive

The route from Malmesbury is broadly south on A429, then Hullavington, Grittleton, Castle Combe, so if you want to join en route, let me know roughly where and I’ll suggest a meeting point and a time.

See you all then.

Jonathan, your local knowledge is appreciated - so i would therefore agree that we meet at the Waitrose (0.5 miles from campsite - 3 mins according to Mr google) at whatever time people wish to get there (0730 sounds good if that is opening time - chance to buy supplies for the day and fill up with a butty/coffee) - with a view to leaving at 0800-0815 or whenever we feel like it.

If anyone is thinking of joining somewhere en route, I'll send you my phone number by PM so we can run seemlessly with suitable timing updates

I shall be wending my weary way south from Solihull and aim to arrive at the (posh) campsite at roughly 6pm. I shall be in the Waitrose car park at 7:30 Saturday morning with any luck.

We've just had a colour coordinated convoy to Waitrose for posh breakfast at a respectable time of 1000 :burnout:

I’d have come down and joined you if I’d known. See you in the morning though. PS: I can bring extra wet weather gear if anyone needs it.

You won't see me at 0730, 0800 or 0830. The Smoky Dug ales are too good right now and I think I might have a bit of a lie in :asleep:

What about if you don't count the AA truck as part of the convoy?
