Evening all, after almost 30 years of waiting I've taken the plunge and bought an M100. It's a bit of a bin at present but I aim to change that fairly quickly. I've a couple of immediate issues that need some advice but I will just say hi for now.

I hope you have good mechanical skills, lots of patience and/or plenty of £££ to throw at your local mechanic

Sounds like you might have similar problems to Tuga ????? viewtopic.php?f=38&t=26837 Did you do the paper clip test in service mode to ascertain if you had any error codes ?

Good luck ;-)

Hi all, thanks for the warm welcome. I live in sunny Wigan, I am a mechanic by trade although I drive a desk these days. I am a bit of a glutton for punishment having previously owned a 1987 Excel SE, two 1986 Scimitar SS1 1600s and a 1989 Scimitar 1800ti so just expecting more of the same from the Elan if I'm honest......In a positive way of course!

You may not have quite the same experience with your Excel.
Unlike the Excel, it was developed under GM's ownership, so they had some influence by increasing testing to increase reliability.
Some things are squeezed in awkward places to make them fit (eg. the coil packs being under the coolant expansion tank & the oil filter being shoved out of the way behind the engine) but some of the things are laid out quite nicely & no less reliable than a mass-manufactured car.

I thought you must have some knowledge as you had already changed the HES and repaired the CAS

As a mechanic you're half way to getting a decent car :burnout:
