Well, it's been a busy 2 days in my super-duper carport (no garage door yet!)....

.... full brake rebuild yesterday, and an oil change (I'd forgotten that I never got round to making a hole in the sump guard for the drain plug, so it had to come off )

Today was meant to be a 'cleaning' day - but it suffered from project creep....

Sorted the interior, then cleaned and re-proofed the roof (after I spent half an hour looking for the Renovo kit, which was eventually discovered in the airing cupboard) before tackling the bodywork. It has been outside since returning from Hethel so it wasn't pretty - especially as the building works has been happening.

Then it was time to do the really important things - like get the radio to work.....

....except most of the wiring for the amp had suffered from corrosion, so it had to be re-installed..... I now have half a stereo - front left and rear right work, so at least that is something....

.... then I investigated the non-working interior lights - just a blown fuse - except the replacement blew straight away

The investigation consisted of fitting bigger and bigger fuses until it didn't blow, and smoke could be seen from the top of the windscreen. Water had got under the front of the seal over the winter and shorted out the 3-pin connector, so a quick removal of the header rail cover, replace the connector and all is well (and now back protected by the correct 5A fuse).

Never did get round to looking at the fuel pipe I thought I needed, so tomorrow will be another early start.

Still, looking on the bright side, it is ready to go, looking okay, and today was the last day for the builders on the garage project

Dave, I thought I was leaving it to the last minute! The o/s rear of the bumper was a mess, it was drooping behind the rear wheel (previous accident damage?), it had a weird bulge in it and the paint had cracked where I hit it with a tool box whilst walking past! So today I made a new bracket, filled and painted - actually looks pretty good, just need to blend the lacquer in a bit - it could still go horribly wrong.

Also made a new bracket to hold the B-post cover in place, somehow I lost it when I took the seat belt out!

The generic front lip hasn't turned up yet, bit of luck really as the screws across the front scraped across the ground when I left the polling station earlier, so had I fitted the lip it would've ripped off! Hopefully it'll turn up tomorrow....

Then it just needs a clean and polish, and the timing checked.

Anyone else ever heard the expression "you can never polish a turd"

- but you can lacquer it!

Are convoys legal or illegal these days ?

Just looked it up. Ok with under 12 cars. So three groups would be fine.

Not illegal if all cars are 'independent' but going the same way.

The '12 car rule' relates more to organised route events with maps/tulip diagrams etc for each car.

Common sense dictates that as long as we aren't driving silly and inconveniencing other road users, it won't be a problem.
