J - try Footman James. A few of us have (me, Dapinky etc....) used them for several years

I'm £209.03 for both M100's. 5k annual mileage between both cars, named drivers, nil deduction salvage retention, European driving (if BoJo ever lifts lockdown), agreed value, spare parts etc.... Plus a few more things

Mine came in from Footman James a couple of days ago - renewed it online, total cost was £161......

..... 3K miles, agreed value, salvage retention, £5k of spare parts - with all modifications declared. The 'basic' insurance was £101, and the 'extras' bumped it up a bit, then add on the £20 brokers fee and IPT to get to the £161.

I'm happy with that (but don't expect to get much use out of it this Summer).

I might have to look into this salvage rights and retention stuff. Didn't realise you could do that !!

Thanks Mark (and Dave). I did consider FJ last time round, but at the time the Elan was my only car and they didn’t like me using it for magistrate purposes (even though it’s an unpaid volunteer activity). Now I have a daily driver, it wouldn’t be a problem.

Mind you, at the moment laid up cover would be fine

Will be shopping around . .

My renewal from Flux was just £3 more than last year and less than the year before that. I’ve renewed it. Suits me as she is my daily and I’ve got no claims bonus on that too. Classic policies (often with limited miles) aren’t suitable for me, I couldn’t get a good deal last time I tried.

I'm sure you're all up to speed on this, but anyway here's some data on insurance renewal amounts vs days left on old policy:

Insurance Renewal.jpg

I've seen other data which gives 21 days as the optimum, but it's lost in the ether somewhere....

Edit: Found it! the 21 days has been revised to 24 days on the Moneysavingexpert website.

I wonder whether this applies to classic policies, or whether it’s aimed at more ‘normal’ situations.

Anyway, just in case, it looks like I need to get a move on with my renewal. Thanks for the heads up

Mine is due on the 7th May.
£217.54

Covers
Shows and Events
European motoring
Non standard audio
Salvage retention.

Renewal premium £125.54 Plus
£15.00 Nil deduction salvage retention
£15.00 Spare parts 2
£12.00 Agreed Value
£30.00 Legal protection (WILL REMOVE THIS )
£20.00 Arrangement fee
Total including insurance premium tax £217.54

This does read like a bit of an ryanair style insurance policy but it is with Footman james .

3000 miles ,
club lotus discount
Comprehensive cover
£100 accidental damage ,Fire & Theft.
Agreed £15000 . Which is probably on the low side. The last JC edition sold for £17,995 and that had not undergone a full rebuild.

Parking Details .. overnight parked on drive . Though it is in garage ? not sure if this is a good of bad status .
Garaged NO
Modified YES

Will need to declare Hi Specs when i have worked out what discs to buy and then fit. not sure if this is seen as an upgraded safety feature . not yet fitted .

Seemed a decent price until i see those that are with Footman james are paying a fair bit less. I have not shopped around for another quote . However looking at the possibility of not clocking up many miles this year 3000 may well be top heavy. I did 1100 mile on the last policy.

I will remove legal protection as i have it with other vehicles saving £30 bringing it down to £187.54
But hi spec , hoops & hardtop may put it back up again.

Guys, be careful with Salvage Retention as there could be instances where the insurer insists you retain and at your cost.
Example, your car gets stolen and found burnt out. There are other scenarios, that could be costly.

You want to agree retention if vehicle is Cat S N or unrecorded, not Cat A or B.

I’ve just renewed. Gone to FJ for this year at a price about what Clemo quotes (and £85 less than Flux). They did quote me a reduced rate if I joined Club Lotus, but the reduction was almost exactly the same as the subscription cost :D I may look at that again next year.

I didn’t take the legal either, but I did take agreed vale (£12K) and salvage retention. Lotusles, FYI the policy paperwork specifically says only Cat S or N, not Cat A or B

Footman James update.

Policy now £161.03

Reduced price because:-

Mileage now on 2000 not 3000 per year.
Declared in Garage overnight. This took £15 of the price . It can be on the driveway during the day but must be garaged overnight.
I removed the legal protection as have it on a different policy.

I declared the hi spec brakes . This was seen as an improvement . No extra cost.

My excess is £100 . Pinky has £50 on his . Something i overlooked . Will sort that next year.

just renewed with Classic line, dropped the miles to 3k from 5k (unlikely to get anywhere near that this year), salvage retention but not spares cover, garaged overnight, value increased to £10k from £8500 and legal /uk eu homestart breakdown thrown in.
£168 (£175 last year)
