Can anyone recommend an insurer for an Elan (as a daily drive).

Footman james are £180 more than Direct Line.

Direct Line would now appear to be quite competitive for me, must be getting old :-[

You surprise me that FJ are more expensive Greg, being as they're supposedly "specialist" inurance agents.
I'm renewing mine next week through them.
Unlimited mileage protected NCB 350 excess.
£282 per annum (with the S/S exhaust and Hi-Spec brakes declared).
Which, when you compare it to our Vectra SRi under the same deal = £422, seems quite cheap!

Sy,

You obviously live in a posh area, with a garage? and must be ancient ;D As I have a clean (touch a forest) record, over 30, so these should not be a factor.

Im insured with ...Tesco yep cheapest i could find. There is also some debate as to wether Tesco insure track days...policy specifically excludes 'racing' which im told if you are not being timed.. you are not racing..

i have class 1 business, and partner on car also.

definately worth a call / internet shop/
BTW i'm 30 (for one day only) and the car is garaged but postcode is probably 'normal risk' judging by other policies i have had..

hope this helps

Paul

A colleague of mine has just drawn my attention to this site...

http://www.confused.com/

Their cheapest quote for me is exactly the same as my FJ quote, which is reassuring in itself.

My Elan is insured through FIREBOND PLC ( 08704 440556 ) cover is fully comp for my wife and I with an agreed value of £10000 !! annual mileage is restricted to 6000 miles per annum with an excess of £550.
The cost to me is just £238.78. But then I'm an old fart and I live in Suffolk.
Could be worth a call.?

Unimpressed with Footman James.

When my renewal was due in August they said that my current insurers (Axa) were still very cometetive.

Using confused as suggested above, FJ are £130 over the odds. Presumably I have been paying a simiar amount more than I needed to for the last few years!

There are over a dozen quotes far better than Axa, the best being £254 - fully comp, unlimited, protected, inc. wife, garaged (car, not wife).

I have asked them and their response was that it was the best quote from the insurers they use. I didn't realise that they have a limited number of sources. I presumed they would just do what you or I would do which is check 'em all.
Obviously next year I will do my own checking rather than relying on them.

One thing in their defence is that the cover I have gives free Green Card and UK/continental breakdown cover but if you don't want it, why pay for it?

I’m insured with Elephant.co.uk and I'm paying £650 with a £450 excess. Not too bad considering the car is valued at 11k, with 12K limited miles, fully comp, commuting and business class A and I'm only 24!!

Does anyone have any tips for insuring an S2?

As it's less than 10 years old it's ineligible for most classic policies, but I can't apply any no-claims to a general policy because I still run a company car. ???

So far I've only found 3 companies willing to touch it for less than 4 figures. :o Footman James is the cheapest at £470, following by Esteem (via Official Lotus Club) and Heritage. These are all on a classic-type limited mileage policy, although only FJ will do it on an Agreed Value basis.

There's nothing too dodgy about my circumstances (over 30, etc), and the car's garaged and alarmed, so surely there must be some other insurers out there that understand the need to have an S2 as a second car? [smiley=disbelief.gif]

I'd be grateful for any suggestions!

Thanks, Ian
