Agreed Value Insurance

Postby Gary » Sat 14.10.2006, 09:24

What companies should I try for fixed value insurance ?

I'm already with Footman James, but I reckon I'm paying too much (£450!). Just tried ClassicLine and they quoted even more.

Any others worth trying ?

Don't forget to make sure there's no excess on "malicious damage" claims!

Just checked out a quote from MoreTh>n for £222. Which isn't agreed value but don't see how I can justify spending twice that. Also means I don't have to pay club Lotus for membership.

Any opinions ? or am I just talking to myself ?

See even Paul don't wanna talk to you now mate :-D

What mileage are they quoting for?

Which car are you talking about? I assume it's garaged etc as well.

Afternooon Gary, you're not alone... :smt039

I stuck with MoreThan again this year - even though the premium went up from ~£190 to £225, it was still better than the rest I tried. OK, you haven't got the reassurance of an agreed value policy, but when I had a car pinched, I found out that if you're prepared to argue the toss and don't give up, you can squeeze an awful lot more out of them than the first offer.

I'd go with it and give the moths a feast.

Thanks Geof, that has almost confirmed my decision.

Dave - the S2. Value £13500. Yes garaged, 45000 miles and neither I nor the missus have had a claim in the last 5, and we have all our faculties

For ref : S2. Value £12500. Yes garaged, 33000 miles and neither I nor the missus have had a claim in the last 5, and she has all her faculties. Probably explains the extra fiver they are charging me.

I've just renewed with Aon (08705 708090 or http://www.aon-classiccar.com for info) on a "Modern Classics" policy. Car is a 1991 SE, garaged, agreed value of £9500, clean licence, no claims and the premium is £237. This is based on it being a second car (ie have to confirm use of another main car, although not necessarily one registered in my name) and an annual mileage limit of 3000 miles, although (a) it's possible to extend this mid-year if you get close to the limit and (b) if you don't use all your "allowed" miles you can carry them over to the next year.

I've been with them for about 5 years and - unlike my main car - the premium has gone down slightly every year. Extending the cover for track days is free; you just have to tell them in advance and there's a £1000 excess on the day.

I don't know what their claims handling's like, as thankfully I've never had to use it. But they're always very friendly and helpful, eg sorting out with the underwriter about some non-standard circumstances with a temporary garaging arrangement while I moved house.

I also use AON and found my premium reducing also. Their claims process is OK for glass, at least. Only downside I have found is they are only open Mon-Fri. Not a big problem though. Thumbs up from me.
Just my opinion
