Last night on the way home from work I had a little accident. In fact I've not long ago been released from the hospital.

Coming down a dual carriageway (A611) from hucknall I suffered a rear tyre blowout (we think) at 70mph. This unsuprisingly swung the rear end of the car out and as I tried to gather it up it fishtailed and unfortunately the opposite wheel touched the bank at the side of the road spinning the car through 180 and more impotantly upside down into a wood.

I had to be freed by the fire brigade who had to lift the rear of the car with airbags cut the remains of the rear window open and cut me seatbelt (from which I was dangling upside-down). I was then able to crawl out through the gap they had made.

Luckily I only have facial injuries and have needed seven stitches, unfortunately the car is absolutely totalled. When I went and saw her after being released from the hospital my first thought was I should be dead, my head must have hit the ground. I am going back tomorrow and will get some pictures of the car but heres one of me although its not pretty.

Something to learn from this is that the Elan doesn't like being dropped on its roof

Shame about the car especially as its a S2, I know an Elan is an Elan before the Se boys start moaning

Try to see if you can get some photos of the car, as its not very often we see how these cars hold up or dont on their roofs (luckily)

My wife says it's lucky you have "a bit of padding" - but she immediately added that she is very VERY glad that you're ok, and is very sympathetic about the loss of your car.

I feel the same, minus the bitchy comment, which is the kind of thing I get from the skinny moo all the time!

I've already started browsing around for another, so I dont think I'll be Elanless for long although I'm upset I've lost my baby that I've literally put so much blood, sweat and tears into. I'm hoping they'll let me salvage some bits from her when I go to see her tomorrow.

Hi Graham- horrid accident. Take it easy and dont rush going back to work unless you really have to. Put your feet up this weekend and if you can beat 2 weeks you'll beat my record- thats how long it took me to replace my totalled Elan. We're all here for you if you need anything.
