On a different note. How old/worn were your tyres?
Let's learn from this to make sure none of us end up this way... Blow outs always scare me!
I had a rear go once at 120Kph but the air stayed in the tyre long enough for me to pull over with no drama. Lucky! What was ironic was I was on my way to the tyre fitter.

The fronts were almost new Toyo Proxes, the rears were underterminate in age but had plenty of wear Conti-sport Contact 2's.

erm IIRC......the A posts were never part of the 'crash' structure.......

No good complaining about the A pillars - they may slow down the impact, but they'd have to be vary agricultural to stop it!

Even a full FIA spec roll cage isn't a guarantee of success, and i've known those who would agree with me if they were still able to :cry:

Nothing will stop the laws of physics, and we can only do so much to 'divert' them - 2 sets of rolls bars are my best investment so far - and i hope to consider them to be a waste of money during the life of the cars - but like any other policy of insurance - you get it and hope to never need it....

Blody hell!!!!!!!!!! Glad you walked out of it will all parts still attached, could have been a hell of a lot worse.

One of the reasons i got a bar installed in my old one was because i knew they would go flat on turning over and at 6'2" that would mean a lot of my head meeting tarmac! As has been said even a full spec roll cage won`t save a life but it will give you a better chance

Oh my. I'm truly sorry to hear about this but heartened indeed to see your dear Elan sacrificed itself to save you! Looks like the fragmenting body structure dissipated some of the impact. I was going to remove Smaug's rather homely rollbar; I'm now having second thoughts. Glad to hear you'll be OK once everything heals up. If you need anything from this side of the pond (plug wires?

) for the new car, let me know.
