Late SE's had a revised handbrake that didn't fold. It gave extra leverage and didn't "ratchet" low down the travel.
It was available as an upgrade kit but is now extinct. I bought one at Donny 2 years ago for £20 which included a new boot. I have the part number data sheet somewhere if anyone wants more info.
Maybe some S2's had these fitted or perhaps some folk prefered one that stayed up instead of being all floppy so it was a retro fit?
Edit : I seem to recall that the S2 lever cants over at an angle whereas the SE one sits parallel (i.e in line with the console)? If so then my 'retro fit' theory is complete bollocks

Geoff
When on, my handbrake lever stays up on it's own, but you can push it into the down position with your little finger.
Maybe you have a floppy, old and worn lever that won't stay up

Gazza,
Maybe you have a decrepid, old and worn one that won't go where it should

I want an S2 so I can take advantage of the uprated drop in power of 10 Bhp!
"How Lotus Has Improved The Elan.... with two cats that cuts power by 10bhp" Genious!
This is THE reason I bought an SE (or 3). What were they thinking!? a whole 5 years of technological evolution and they make the new improved edition slower!
Of course they were just clearing the warehouse and cashing in old stock!

I thought a catalitic converter was supposed to be good for the environment. If not what is the point (apart from making the car safer that is

It oxidises Carbon Monoxide and Hydrocarbons, which are toxic, and turns them into water and CO2.

Number 101: Wheel nuts are 17mm A/F rather than the heavy 19mm nuts of the SE and Norma.
Lighter = faster.

What about this one ?
Strangely I looked under the bonnet today and noticed the S2 has a wire thingimy coming out the Turbo (it is handy that the wrote Turbo on the top so we know what it is !), but the SE has just a blanking bolt.
What is that all about then?

S2 is closed loop - more power, more economical and less pollution.

It had F-All to do with power or economy.
The good old British Government wanted to show the world that they cared about all the Polar bears drowning in the raging rising seas, so changed the emissions regulations in 1992

And to hell with the depletion of the precious metals used in making the Catalyst

800 cars chucked together from SE left overs, with a few minor changes brought about by legistration or the fact there were none left, to make a bit of money for Mr Buggatti, so whats the fuss about ?, oh & half of them done in :gray: colours
