Postby clemo » Sun 22.04.2007, 14:20

I'm trying to get together a list of all N/A's mainly to find out how many are left.

I have some details of about our cars but would like to fill in the missing gaps. If you have an NA, the details I'm after are.

Colour
PAS
Hood Colour
Leather or Half leather
Lhd or Rhd
Mileage
Reg
Exact date of registration
VIN number
Extras and Upgrades
rear strut number
engine number

LOTUS CARS LTD.

Thank you for your letter regarding your lotus elan N/A

i can confirm that the elan s1 was built between january 1990 and july 1992, a total of 3855 units were built for a world wide market.

The normally aspirated (N/A) version was produced in RHD UK form only.
With a total of 129 BUILT.

i trust this clarifies the situation.

Clemo,

Have a chat with Nige...

80 may be incorrect... :(

I think 39 was the magic number he mentioned..

Nige has more information.. a different source.. other than the Mark Huges bible..

N/A register

Postby hatters » Wed 25.04.2007, 14:43

Hello everyone
This is my first posting on L E C and before I say anything else may I say what a very useful forum it is with everyone making a lot of sense about owning what must be one of the best sports cars ever
Anyway the reason I have decided to post is that my car is an N/A

details on closed N/A database.

I purhased it last OCTOBER and it was in a bit of state when I first had it , due to being standing for quite a long time
I have had the bonnet and wings painted ,a new cam belt and tensioner ,a new radiator, a steering wheel off an Elise , an aftermarket air filter similar to KandN only its stainless and not fabric I bought it at the Donington show
Its the fourth LOTUS I have had the other casr were -
elite 501 good handling very unreliable broke down several times
excell much better car than the elite
elan 2 plus 2 a great little car wish I still had it
However they all overfuelled and I had to keep a spare set of plugs in the glove box because when the plugs were wet there was no chance of starting any of them
Any way I digress lets get back to the best one of all of them the little ELAN ,the hood is torn in two places above the back of the windows a problem they all suffer from I believe .Iwill be having a new hood fitted in the near future I dont know whether to go for green mohair or black

What we need is an NA instead of SE on the back of the car.We need to show that it is not a common SE,it is a rare NA.I read Dougs description of the NA in one of his previous posts. Can he remember it? Yours Gmacz

Clemo, is it correct that N/A`s originally had black door mirrors ?
The paint on my mirrors looks suspiciously non original.

checked the thread and it appears her S2 was yellow and the N/A was blue

I recall that only ONE of Maggie's Elans was a N/A, so if it is the Blue one, then the dead RED one was an SE . . . so you'll have to remove it from the list -- sorry I messed you up :(

Only just spotted this thread and will forward details of my NA to Clemo as requested (he knows many of them as I bought it from him).

To Answer Olivers question on mirrors, the original spec on NAs were Black unpainted.

As far as numbers go I was told by the Lotus aftersales team at Donington this year that only 37 NAs were built. Although that seems very low I have to take it at face value and accept it. I will however e mail my contact at Lotus and ask the question again and ask for some evidence for that figure. Even if the figure is higher we remain the owners of the most exclusive Elans out there and they go round corners just as quickly as the puffy cars (as an S2 owner I can say that). More to the point we don't need an extra badge on the back.

Ny NA (Norma) topped the 100,000 mile figure last night on my way home from the Southern area meet at the Hen & Chickens. She is still a daily driver but with a recent change of job is now doing 10 miles a day rather than the 88 miles a day of the previous 18 months.

Hello Nige,

Good to hear about your reduction in mileage. The old girl should be preserved.

If Lous did make 37 NA`s, then how many, like mine, have manual steering ?
