LEC breakfast or lunch - Jan 6th or 7th?

Postby Dave M » Wed 20.12.2006, 04:31

Hey all! Looks like my CA trip will actually happen, though not exactly the way I planned it last year. I won't have my white Elan with me, but I'm going to be in San Francisco Jan 5-8. If it would work out, I'd love to get together with a group of you for a "LOG" of our own. Since I'm flying in on the 5th and leaving on the 8th, either Saturday or Sunday would work. I'm staying near Union Square, so if anyone has a recommendation of a place to meet, feel free to suggest something. I know little to nothing about places to eat in town, but with some LEC folks and a beer (well, maybe not for breakfast  ), I'm up for anything.

It will be nice to see you around downtown San Francisco Dave. I should have already been back from my vacation to make it on that day. :-)

Sure, sounds fun. Would be fun to get Marie too, but she works ungodly hours on the weekend.

I am not a fan of the Union Square area myself. But you can stroll up Stockton Street through Chinatown, into North Beach. Plenty of cafes, bars, and restaurants there.

Are you thinking breakfast, lunch, or dinner? If brunch, you might consider the Farmers Market at the Ferry Building Saturday morning. Pretty amazing scene, weather permitting.

It would be breakfast or lunch...whichever works for most folks. My wife gets dibs on dinnner.

Looks like Saturday may work the best. Does Kjeld's suggestion of brunch at the Farmers Market sound good? I don't know how much time I'll have to get online tomorrow (Thursday), but will try to check in before I leave. A few folks have my cell, so I can touch base once I'm in on Friday.

Looking forward to meeting you all!

Okay, I hate picking places, since there is no upside. While I love the Farmers Market, I don't know anything about the restaurants there. The nearest place I know and like, is the Washington Square Bar and Grill, in North Beach. It opens at 10:30am for brunch. Mark can walk there (nice little hike, that), and we should be able to park nearby easily enough. The "washbag" offers valet parking in the evening, not sure about the morning.

Marie, being a VERY young person, is interested in joining despite being awake the entire night before.

I will be there Sat morning. Hopefully I will see you guys. Otherwise, I will have a Bloody Mary and call it a day. Not a bad thing.

It's been a while since I've seen the Bay Area LEC crew. Now if I can get my lazy butt out of bed in time, I'm in as well.

Hey gang! I'm back safe and sound after 2544 miles in the new purchase. It ran extremely well with only the thermostat being an issue. I'll have more on that later in another thread and a link to all the pictures we took en route.

Thanks again to everyone who came out from brunch - especially those who drove quite a way. And another big thanks to Marie and Jamie who gave my wife and I the "Lotus Shuttle" to Pier 33. Sorry that time got away from us and we had to run off so fast...but the Alcatraz tour was great.

I'll post a few of the pics from after the brunch here later, but I'm going to bed. I slept in the Elan Monday night for a few hours while my buddy drove, and had a brief stopover for some sleep last night - however my butt is sore and my bed here at home sounds great right now!

Yeah, this should remind us all that we need to do a better job of getting together.

And wow, how fun would it be to fly across country, buy an M100, and drive it home! Dave. We are waitiing with bated breath for your drive home report. Hopefully, Amanda didn't have to bail you out of a backwater mobile home jail in the Texas panhandle.

Not that I would know much about backwater mobile home jails in Texas, but there was a time, 1984, a cross country trip on my '76 T3 Moto Guzzi......

No, thankfully we avoided the law, potholes, other drivers, and animals on the way back. I do have some incriminating video and pictures my co-driver took as we followed a high-speed convoy through Illinois, however.

Before I dive into the pile of e-mail and voice mail at work, here's one quick pic of the new girl from somewhere in the Mohave desert. The paint *is* bad, lots of peeling on the clearcoat, but otherwise appears to be a very good car.

Wow, a long trip in an Elan. I gotta do that some days. I had my fingers crossed for you for your trip back. Glad you made it :burnout:

Notice 2 Elans in your signature :smt023 Don't think she could find a better new home.

Good start for her 1st picture Dave. Those rims look great!!

too bad I couldn't make the "meet" last weekend. Have been real busy with family and was working all last weekend and since!

Spoke to Dave on the phone. Sounds like a fun drive and time! I, too, am jealous and your wife must be something special to allow all this as well.

Get some sleep and then look forward to the new thread explaining the acquisition, the trip, and the plans for "Peely."

What a cool conversation, too. Doug and I are chatting as I'm hiking down Lombard Street in San Francisco. For those who don't know of the street, it's the curviest road in the world or something like that. I'll post a pic in my photos...

YES - she is! I don't have the lift yet, so the "no cars parked in the driveway" requirement needs to be fulfilled sooner rather than later or I'm gonna get some heat.

Yeah! That's where us people around SF Bay Area practice heel-toe shifting
