A points penalty on Alonso would have had a lot more teeth.

I'm torn on this one - the lap times did increase when Alonso took the lead... maybe Massa was substantially holding him back, which is apparently the one loophole in the team orders rule. The ambiguity of the situation is probably why the penalty was so minimal.

Massa was quoted as 40 -1 to win in Germany. I wonder if Lucky Luca is willing to honour my £100 bet
Cheating pure & simple. No better than match fixing, boxers taking a dive etc.
Folk traveled the globe, paid loads a money etc to watch a fix. This is why the rule was brought in - to stop this 5hit. How about McLaren, or maybe Lotus  take along a flexi front wing next time out, win the race and take a $100k hit - well worth it. Rule are rules for a reason.
All a load of tosh. There is only one team prize at stake here - the constructors championship. Ferrari did not gain any additional points for it by fixing the result. Only the 'individual' 'Drivers' championship was affected.
I just hope Massa has the balls to win all the remaining races, maybe lose the drivers championship by a single point to Jenson, point the finger, well two actually  - at Lucky and Allponso and then walk away
Rant over and I'm off to watch Moto GP :-D Is Rossi a God or what?

some say red bull decided not to run the not flexiable front wing as it may show as flexing on this fast circuit...
im only saying what some have said .. i didn't think that the slow-mo shot of it flexing made it look illegal at all..

I thought considering the fire and the ammount of room on the track infront of the pits it was a wise move not to go in the pits.....
could you imaging that in the pits with a couple of slow marshals....its looks very chuffin tight in the singapore pits.....

well that didnt last long

F1: Proton says Tony Fernandes may not call F1 team 'Lotus'

Malaysian carmaker Proton on Monday vowed to challenge Tony Fernandes' intention to brand his formula one team 'Team Lotus' in 2011 and beyond.

In 2010, airline millionaire Fernandes' new team has been called 'Lotus Racing', with the name officially licensed by the separate British carmaker Group Lotus.

But Group Lotus is now ramping up its motor racing efforts, including by allying with GP2 team ART next year. It is believed the carmaker therefore decided to retract the naming license for Fernandes' team.

Air Asia chief Fernandes has therefore bought the separate Team Lotus name from David Hunt. But Group Lotus said in a statement on Monday that it will resist Fernandes' intention to call his F1 team Lotus in 2011.

"We are the owners of this brand, and will take all necessary steps to protect it," said Proton Holdings Bhd chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh.

"Tony Fernandes has no rights to use the Lotus brand in the 2011 formula one season, and we will strongly resist any attempts by him to use our brand without our permission and will withdraw our sponsorship of the Lotus Racing team," he added.

Nadzmi confirmed that Proton and Group Lotus have terminated the licensing of the Lotus Racing name for Fernandes' team because of "flagrant and persistent breaches of the licence by (the team), which were damaging to the Lotus brand".

He also said Group Lotus will not allow Fernandes' team to be called 'Team Lotus' in 2011, even though the name was owned separately by 1976 world champion James Hunt's brother David since 1994.

"Mr Hunt's attempt to acquire the name Team Lotus (in the 90s) was ineffective," said the Proton statement.

"Group Lotus is the owner of all rights in the 'Lotus' automotive brand including those relating to formula one," it added.

Having read the articles by Adam Cooper and Tony Dodgins on the Autosport Plus website this can only end in tears as both sides think they are right. The article goes a long way to explain the involvement of David Hunt in the affair since he bought the remains of the original team in 1994.

Group Lotus is apparently a very different place to how it was 12 months ago when Mr Fernandez did his original deal to licence the name. A raft of ex-Ferrari people are now on board who have major expansion plans for the brand and they don't want the current owners of the Lotus Racing F1 team involved. Only the lawyers are set to gain from this. We should have seen thic coming with the ART Lotus and Air Asia GP2 teams announced on the same day last week.

how many lotus racing teams are there?

lotus (team)
lotus (racing)
lotus ART
and this one below

lotus Motorsport will expand its IndyCar partnership with KV Racing in 2011 and has confirmed that it will design bodywork for the new-for-2012 next generation IndyCar Series rules.

The company, which in its original incarnation won the 1965 Indianapolis 500, returned to American motorsport in a sponsorship and technical support deal with KV this season. The tie-up saw Takuma Sato running a classic green Lotus livery on his Dallara IndyCar for his rookie season.

Lotus says it will stick with KV through 2011, and that next year it will back at least two of the team's cars.

I've never been much of a sports fan, so the entire concept of naming a team this or that is absurd to me anyhow. For instance, we have in almost every major American city, a litany of professional sports teams (and countless minor league teams as well). Baseball, basketball, football, soccer, (yes, those ARE two different things over here ;-)), hockey, etc. Some large cities even have more than one team in a single sport. But - other than the team playing half of their games in that city, there's nothing connecting it there. It's possible that not a single person involved in the team, from the management to the players, are from that city, or lived there prior to becoming part of the team. The "Cityville Tigers" may consist of 0% Cityville residents. It's all a bit of a scam in my opinion.

I've gotten well into F1 since I took an interest in Lotus, and it seems to be very similar. Teams have be funded from the same conglomerate corporation as a vehicle brand, but the F1 team and the passenger car company are in fact very, very distinct and separate entities. And don't forget the same location-based situation going on here, even though the Italian team may consist of 3 non-Italian drivers.

My point is... I don't consider Lotus in F1 to be remotely connected to Lotus Cars. It's a gimmick. Sure, Scuderia is a somewhat connected to Ferrari, but they're not the same company, really. It's not like it was 50 years ago when the lines were quite blurry and you could assume the same people were involved.
