Looks like we are not going to get to watch all the F1 races next year on the BBC as it looks like only half the races will be broadcast on the BBC.

I for one will not be paying to view the races not broadcast on the BBC, what was Bernie thinking of after had stated "selling Formula 1 to Sky television would be “suicide”. " in May 2011!

I agree, in fact I thought it was in the concorde agreement that all races had to be on free to air, and I thought that is what all the teams wanted.

I won't be paying either, and don't see much point in only watching half the races either. In fact I'm wondering whether I should just make a clean break now and stop watching.

Very sad as I've not missed a race in over 20 years....

:agree:
Diabolical.
Boxing, footy, even Cricket  and now F1 - sky is 5hit
Bernie wants his ass kicked - lying barsteward. Didn't they have a 5 year contract in place?
And what sort of statement is this:
"BBC Sport director Barbara Slater said: "We are absolutely delighted that F1 will remain on the BBC.

"The sport has never been more popular with TV audiences at a 10-year high and the BBC has always stated its commitment to the big national sporting moments."

Vote with your feet folks and boycot Silverstone next year

America has always been the land of the pay-per-sports. Each week there are 13-15 games in the NFL and perhaps 3-4 will be broadcast for free. The rest you need to buy a special $$$ package from the satellite feed to watch ($350/yr). Baseball is similar, they do air a lot of games (but you'll need to pay for extra channels to see much of it).

Formula 1 here is on Speed, which is a Murdoch / Fox channel that I have to pay $10 extra to get each month in an expanded cable package.

We have one of the best seasons for years & then get kicked in the teeth. The greed of Sky & Ecclestone people knows no bounds. I don't know how Sky will make money out of this as most people I know would rather miss F1 than subscribe to Sky.

M/S Slater is obviously not a motor sports fan, knows nothing about it and has not had the common sense to check the ratings. If she had, she might have realised how popular F1 is in the UK and that most of the F1 teams are based here.

Having suffered F1 coverage in many countries ranging from very good in Italy to appalling in Germany (20 mins of adverts per hour!), the BBC is pretty much the best out there.

A sad day for fans. :banghead:

Well here's one for starters Gary..... http://www.petitiononline.co.uk/petitio ... -2010/3290

Yet another good reason for not giving the bastards at Sky a penny of my money. It's not like you can't watch live Premier league matches is it? Apparently.... So I've heard....

Having read the report on autosport does Bernie live in the real world?
There may be 10 million home with Sky but how many have the whole package? if he had quoted how many subscribe to Sky sports it may have been more relevant and I suspect the figure for Sky sports is no where near the 10 million, if it's more than 50% I'll be surprised.
The fact that every one could watch it on the BBC seems to have got lost in the detail somewhere, they are not adding viewers they are losing them.

If pistonheads.com is anything to go by I think this may be quite a big issue for a lot of F1 fans, lots of comments since the news was released.

"Sky Sports magazine is distributed monthly - direct to the homes of Sky Sports' 4.3 million subscribers - making it the world's biggest sport magazine. (ABC Jan-June 2011)."

43% then.....(I can do simple maths :) )

As usual, the mantra is "more money for the teams....", so it's an easy sell for Bernie.

What I can't quite understand is that no one has Sky but not BBC, so how can it mean more viewers??? Of course it is always possible that the terrestrial channels can't afford to cover F1 anymore?

There is a small bit of good news, it seems the BBC will broadcast the whole races , albeit delayed...

Good race. Well done Jenson. Terrible tyre strategy by Lewis though, then again, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Great to see the McClarens being allowed to race each other - Red Bull take note

You hit the nail on the head by mentioning hindsight.
They went for the softer tyre, which is usually quicker but would not have lasted the race. If rain had come heavier when he pitted for inters & the soft tyre was quicker like it usually is.....

then you would be saying 'what a brilliant decision'.

Absolutely, thats the best quote i`ve heard for a long time were F1 is concerned.

2 Brit wins on the trot :-D

Thought that was a bit harsh with the drive through on Lewis, as lewis spun his car around verically on the spot and think Paul would of still took the same route if lewis car stayed still :?

I thought it took 'em a while to charge the penalty, but the spin seemed dangerous to me, it could have gone badly. He put position over safety on that one, IMHO.

Lewis' car was right across the middle of the track which meant people had to avoid it anyhow, I don't see how spinning it back the right way was anymore dangerous than it being left in the middle of the track. Mind you he would still never have won because he would always have had to do one more stop than the others

Driving round a corner at 120mph to see a stationary car would be scary enough.
To then see it spin would be unsettling for anyone.
I know F1 drivers are pretty good at their spin-turns but they must be harder to control than to keep it still by holding the brakes on for a second or two.
Di Resta had to go off to give Lewis room.

If Alonso had done it, I would be saying he deserved the penalty.

Another good race although the TV coverage left a lot to be desired, so much was missed or just not shown. BBC was excellent as usual and Jenson just gets better. He was very lucky that the debris missed him (almost another Massa) & the mirror disappeared so fast it was unbeliveable. If McClaren could sort out the quali it might have been a different story this season. Not sure if Lewis was unlucky or negligent, Kobayashi never gives up, why should someone back off when they have been overtaken, Lewis should really have been expecting something. For the first time ever I agreed with Lauda.

All in all very enjoyable, getting really annoyed with that wretched noise after the race though. 7 times this year!

Lewis being honest, kudos to the guy for this. Can't see Vettel or Scummacher ever admitting it was their fault. (Just ask Damon Hill  or Mark Webber)
