A study it conducted in Aylmer Road, in Barnet, north London, suggested that volunteers working for a year were able to bring down the average speed by 11mph, to 31mph - below the 40mph limit.

its just 'old' people........NIMBY's........the limit was 40mph.....these prats have brought it down to 31mph.......why.....

its like moving next to a race track then complaining about the noise.........

these are the same prats that drive in the middle lane at 50.......do 40 in a 50 zone.......
they don't give a toss about anyone or anything....other than what they see to be right and their ability to try to enforce their will
I’m normally not a praying man, but if you’re up there, please save me, Superman.

It's because most people have a speedo' calibrated to EU Regs. - 0% to + 10%+2mph (it's actually +4 kph in Regs) and most manufacturers seem to be at the max to make owners think their cars are faster.
If they drive at indicated 40 they're only doing 35 and when they see a speed camera natural tendency is to lift off a bit.

Aylmer Road is part of the A1, Great North Road, coming out of north London, so if people are only doing 31 in a 40 zone, no wonder London is grid-locked. In the '70's Met' Police used to say if they imposed the 30 limit London would come to a standstill. As long as it was "30 something" you were usually OK but late at night on empty streets they expected a bit more ... do exact 30 or less and they'd suspect drink-driving and pull you over ...

Look at the photo of the ‘Speedwatch tablet’, Lotus isn’t on it! You’ll never get caught! :P
