ABFM Vancouver BC 2019

Postby sideways » Thu 16.05.2019, 23:24

I may have missed it as someone may have already posted it but in case not...the ABFM (All British Field Meet) which is held annually at Van Dusen Garden in Vancouver BC (Canada) is on again this Saturday May 18.

The Lotus contingent will be there as always, small though it may be BUT...every year I have been there I have only ever seen one M100 (Ron Solomon's car) but this year will see at least a 100% increase!!!

Yes, my 1991 will be there so you may want to get those plane tickets booked now.

PS if you are stuck for accommodation we can put you up as long as you don't smell too bad and do not make loud noises in the night. :D

I will be proudly wearing my Old English Car Club of British Columbia baseball cap on the day while out and about in the Elan here in the UK

With a name like Saltire it should be the Old Scottish Car Club of British Columbia - but that would be a very small club and limited to Hillman Imps.

PS, don't recall having seen a Hillman Imp at the ABFM in many years...

Ah, the Hillman Imp. Which had this is common with several Lotus: an engine of Coventry-Climax ancestry.

All went well though apart from my M100 there was only one other at the ABFM, though there are only a handful in BC so...
Up and away at 7am, top down of course so heater was on - works perfectly well, then at the end of the day as the car had been baking in the sun all day, I had the AC on - works very well indeed. I have to say, much as I enjoyed my old school Elans, I truly enjoy AC in a convertible, cools everything down when you first drive off.

Ran by my son's shop to take photos of the underside, remarkable clean other than a bit of a nasty (not major but annoyingly unsightful) on the prongeron at the front where it tells you to NOT jack the car at this point! Certainly doesn't look like it was jacked there, just smacked, a pranged prongeron...

Also noticed that the muffler has a hole so that needs to be replaced, didn't find the sound obtrusive...will probably just go to my local (but specialist) shop and have him bung on a muffler rather than try to source the genuine article.

My grand daughter appears to be ready to drive...
