Looks like I only just got away with things... going to get this checked out and I could only raise rear suspension it needs to go somewhere better equipped anyway..

Ouch :!:

That gives you a dilemma :?

Is the sump lower that the exhaust ?

I had a "bash plate" welded to my westfield sump because the ride height was perfect 99.9% of the time, and I didn't want to change it for that .1%
The "bash plate" was 1/4 " thick with a nicely curved leading edge, and it took a good few hits over the years

It would be a shame if you had to take your suspension up for one day of the year

Hey John have you got any pictures of your sump :poke: aren't you running standard suspension :poke:

Sorry to see your sump damage Paul: not quite as bad as mine though. May be we should all slow down or raise our front suspension an inch or three.

Here's my sump well and truly split. Hoping to get it repaired at the moment: will only consider a new one if this doesn't work and if SJ can manage to persuade Lotus to get some made!!

Prongeron is off and car well supported. But how do I get those seriously well rusted studs off the exhaust :?: :?: :?:

Steve

Picture above :D Not sure if I have standard suspension as have GAZ shocks at least at rear, possibly also up front, and unsure of what springs I have, although rear I know are also adjustable.

My sump is lower than the exhaust, but exhaust, prongeron and sump all show signs of scrapping   :(

By the look of the underside: Your exhaust smacked on the tarmac as well.
It looks like my Ypres experience from last year. Several LEC treads on the work involved due to that...
Cracked manifold, cracked downpipe, cracked exhaust (1st bend) Damaged prongeron.... Wel... everything except the oil pan, as in my (PECO) case the exhaust was the lowest part. As you can read, this is not necessary cheaper to repair than a dented oil pan

Sorry to see your damage anyway. :(

Well gentlemen it seems I've joined the club :(
Not been near the car since returning from Ypres but after seeing Paul's pictures of his sump I've had a preliminary look and it's just like a maniac has attacked it with an angle grinder. No leaks at present and its booked in for an MOT on Thursday so will be able to give it a good going over then.
If it can wait till winter I think reinforcing with a piece of plate then some hard- facing rods may do the trick.

I think it is riding low since I changed shocks and coils - I managed to raise the back today but not the front. I think a new sump will be needed if not now then soon so will do when next serviced (which is soon!) I like the idea of a plate! I also need to have a look at the flexi part of my piper - it sounds OK but again not sure from just axle stands. I loved the day but not at this cost. OK my driving had something to do with it but the roads were a foot lower on each side than the middle and that didnt help!
