Postby MickOpalak » Wed 03.09.2008, 19:30

Folks,

I'm pleased to announce that the official LOG 29 web site is now
available.

http://www.log29.org

We'll be adding more information to it as we prepare it. Start making
plans to attend. It will be one you won't want to miss.

Mick

Here's a pic of Birmingham. It's an 8hr drive for me. Used to only be 2hrs from Atlanta. Still, I'll probably go.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

You wouldn't be the only Englishman in attendance. The infamous Gordon M. (who's wife is a former M100 owner) frequents LOG as do several Lotus Club International folks.

Its a great drive from CO!

I made my hotel reservations today :D

Is there any interest in an M100 breakfast get together as in several past LOGs?

You offering?

Is it worth going if you don't drive? I likely won't be taking my rental car on the racetracks...

Sorry for the delay in responding.

I drove from Birmingham to Colorado back in 2004. After LOG we headed West. Month long driving vacations are great. I did use up a set of tires. Heat and speed have a way of doing that. We had no problems the entire 9,000+ mile trip until we were within 80 miles from home, then a coil pack died.

If I were doing a Denver to Birmingham round trip and had two weeks I would make a big circuit. Head out through the middle of Kansas stopping at some of the fabulous museums that are along the way. I would then head down the along the border between Kansas and Missouri then Oklahoma and Arkansas to see the old forts. I would stop at Crater of Diamonds State Park to search for diamonds then head on into Birmingham. On the way back I would take Rt20 stopping in Dallas Fort Worth. Then I would head on to New Mexico for some real back road driving. I would eventually wiggle my way North visiting historic sites along the way. Heaven!

Birmingham area. The local MB dealer is having a special deal on rentals for the weekend. That would be fun on some of the scenic drives. I have heard that there are some awesome roads picked out for us. The locals swear that the have a road that is better than the Dragon. Without a car I would spend a bit more time seeking autographs and poking around interesting cars rather than detailing my own car. I would also spend more time watching the racing that will be taking place. In 2004 I didn’t spend enough time at the Barber Museum. This time I intend to spend at least half a day looking at the motorcycles and Lotus in the collection. If I had a rental people hauler I would use its capability to meet people by offering my services moving people and stuff around. There is a possibility that I won’t be able to drive our Seven at Talladega. If so I intend to drive my pickup. It would feel more NASCAR like that the Seven.

I would be happy to fly out to Colorado and drive a M100 to LOG. I would even do the return trip. I just need air fare.

Is anyone up for an M100 breakfast?

HIBUTK ('Honey I Blew Up the Kid' M100) is going to be there. M100 breakfast sound good!
I should be there late Thursday afternoon. It is a 12 hour tow from south Florida. I am taking my enclosed trailer with the Elan inside so I can do the road tours, autocross and track day and still make it back to Florida.

Look forward to meeting the other M100 guys & gals!!

Well, in spite of my sad financial status right now (more debt than I care to think about), I just don't think I could live with myself if I didn't go. My wife is going for a weekend trip in late June with a friend, that will cost us about $400, so if she does that, and I don't go 2 hours from home for LOG, I'll resent her. In the interest of peace-keeping, I have to go.

When I sent my registration, the only thing, other than just registering, that I enclosed any money for, is Talladega laps (at least I'll be able to say I drove on Talladega). I assume I have to get the tech inspection done in order to do that. Is that true? I may need to get some patchwork done on the rust of my right side rear wishbone, I guess. Also, I don't own a helmet, so I'm going to have to see if I can borrow one from one of my friends here who rides a bike.

I'm going to drive to B'ham Friday morning for the staging and scenic drive to Talladega. At least, that's the plan. Then, to save some money, I'll probably get a room through Priceline, for Friday and Saturday nights. I'll attend the concourse, and vintage races, and take whatever scenic drives I can (I like those, with top down).

It's my first LOG, and I have to do it on a shoestring, but I think it'll still be fun. I hope to meet some of you guys in person, and get a look at some really nice Elans. When is this Elan breakfast you're talking about planned for?
Chris

Talladega is a run what you brung thing. No tech is needed. I'll post a note about a breakfast meeting, either Saturday or Sunday depending on how the schedule looks.

I look forward to seeing some M100's and their owners. We will be M100-less this time around as we will be bringing our Seven. Next LOG will probably M100 centric for us.
