I did the paper clip test and it showed no fault.
I think it's a fuel problem. The car started ok but then started to run as if on 3 cylinders. It cut out but did start another couple of times but ran "lumpy".
It now doesn't fire at all. Has anyone had problems with fuel pumps or filters?
Any other ideas?

Not had any problem with my fuel pump and I change the filter every couple of years.
Could it possible be one of the ignition coil packs breaking down ?

Just had another fuel related thought. There is a fuel cut off (inertia) switch located in the battery compartment area. Is it possible this has been activated in any way ? Make sure it is fully depressed.
I take it you've checked for a spark

Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you put the ignition on? imobiliser problem?

The fuel cut off is down but I can't remember if the fuel primer pump came on initially. I'll check that and spark when I go back with some tools today.

I put the Elan on the trailer and dropped by my mates place on the way home. I had just confirmed that the fuel pump was not making a noise when the ignition came on and started searching for it's location when he asked "have you checked the fuse first?". Embarrassingly the fuse for the fuel pump had blown
The cars working fine now

No smoke without fire. Fortunately not literally!
The Fuel pump packed in yesterday and I needed a tow home!

Archie - send Jeemy a PM. He probably has 2 spare ones from his breakers. He is based at Fenton Barns/Gullane, East lothian
Or you could try Andy up in Inverness. Maybe the pump is still on Ailwyn's scrapper ??
