IWM Duxford spring classic car shows 6 May & 5 August

Postby bobbrown » Wed 12.01.2011, 12:40

Not sure who would be interested in attending but we should be able to reserve some space at this show.
Spud is going to see if he can get some of the LEF boys and girls to come along.
They do charge for admission but the cost is reduced for club members displaying cars from the normal £16.50 per person to £9.50 per person and it does still give you access to the whole of the Museum and its 7 hangars.
The gate for car clubs will open at 9.30am not sure of the cut off time and it would appear we can have as much space as we like so numbers will not be a problem.
No limit on numbers but a minimum of 10 cars would be good but 100 even better.

Plenty of hotels, Travel lodge and Holiday inn etc close to the event
Curry night Saturday? all thing are possible.

Not just limited to cars as it is Duxford so a chance to see some classic aircraft up close including de Havilland Comet, Westland Wessex, Canberra, Hawker Hunter, English Electric Lightning, Short Sunderland, Avro Vulcan, Supermarine Spitfire, Handley Page Victor, Avro Lancaster, BAC TSR-2, de Havilland Mosquito, Fairey Swordfish......... to name a few.

Well I've gone ahead and booked the space (25 cars) as there will be others attending so not just our Elans.
Space can be increased so if it looks like we are more than 25 in total then I will book more space.
May be need to sort out a meeting point so we can arrive in Convoy as per normal, Birchanger Services seems a good place then a run either up the M11 or may be some back roads.

Now just need the weather to be kind.

Bob - this is the list from LEF so far. Don't know if you get on there at all but they are all getting fidgety - have a look and post up something to calm them all  :D

When you arrive do not use the main gate as car clubs have their own entrance to quote from IWM

"There is a separate gate for car clubs which will open at 0930. It will be gate 1, which is the nearest one to Royston and will provide some signs on the A505 which will lead you into that gate."

sorry to let the side down but the elan is not going to get to this one as intended, it looks like HGF is starting to set in and we are only doing essential short journeys at the moment. :( the good news is that the elise should be out of hibernation by then :burnout: so we'll still make it.
