Brittany break 2012 after Le Mans Classic (6th-8th July)

The time has come for me to begin the organisation of the 3rd bi-annual Brittany break!

The purpose of this post is to gauge interest. I have had some initial enquiries, so time to get the ball rolling.

For those of you who have been part of this in the past, no explanation is required, for those new to this here is a brief explanation.

Basically my parents have a property in Brittany, which they do not mind sharing with various lotus enthusiasts. There are a few options in regards to accommodation, which are as follows....

Gite (provisionally booked)
Camping (adequate space for in excess of ten tents in the orchard. There are toilet/bathroom facilities)
B&B (limited to two double rooms, which will be first come first served)

The house itself is located in beautifully tranquil Brittany countryside about 30 min from Rennes. There is a pool, large garage (for running repairs) and BBQ facilities available. Also my dad is always pleased to challenge anyone for a game of pool in the games room!

As mentioned previously, this post is to sound out the interest, so let me know and I will get the ball rolling!

Also gives my parents some time to come up with an even better treasure hunt!!

Looks like a fab break and Le Mans Classic is an event I have wanted to go to after enjoying the modern Le Mans

I usually go Poole- Cherbourg or Portsmouth - St Malo as these reduce driving travel, but with costs as they are, any top tips welcome!

Also looking at the provisional list, we only have space for one more bed and breakfast option!

None of the usual suspects have published their timetables/routes/prices for next summer yet.....

...however, last time, the cheapest method was Portsmouth - Le Havre....

....I was considering Weymouth to St Malo via Channel Islands for a bit of a stop-over.....

....then i had a blinding epipany.....

.....I'll probably do the Plymouth - St Malo route again - it cost a bit more, but Plymoth is easy to get to.....



....and most importantly, at that time of year, Weymouth will be heaving with water-sport enthusiasts/observers/competitors for the Olympics - seeing as it is the home for all things waterborne, and it ain't a nice drive (even if short on distance) at the best of times - likewise, i think Portsmouth may get affected...

...hence my propensity for the Brittany Ferries Plymouth sailings.

Any thoughts????

Olympic opening ceremony is on 27th July, so not sure how much Olympic disruption will be taking place?

But a good and valid point all the same!

To sum up the current situation, Gite is booked, and Bed and Breakfast booked. There is now ONLY camping space available (but there is plenty).

It is with much regret that I'm (we're) going to have to pull out of this trip. I've just made a monumental cock up on dates which I have tried to get around and failed miserably. I also can't go to the Classic and bearing in mind this all happens biannually it's come as a bit of a blow.
