A bit off your Nurburgring thread, but in response to Monty's question, this time of the year Knockhill do a "Hot Marques" evening (cars worth over 10K - but you still get the odd sooped up Nova) This is usually a Thursday or Friday evening so you could have your Pinky II vs Missy vs The Beast head to head, camp somewhere local and then have the w/e for a mini tour of Scotland (west coast) with plenty more camping, BBQ's, beer etc
Anyway, you and Stevo can discuss but in the meantime have a look here http://www.knockhill.com/trackdays/schedule.php Looks like it's only 50 quid. Sounds good value ??

The site describes ADAC plus which is a european breakdown service seems to be valid in UK. how does this work anyone know?
"ADAC Classic is enough to get you recovered off the Ring to a local garage, and costs €44. So for £30, you get a year's insurance against recovery fees, plus the reassurance of mechanical assistance if you have a problem locally.
ADAC Plus includes European cover, so you can use this as a complete substitute for joining a UK breakdown organisation. This costs €78, so is a lot cheaper than most UK deals. It includes repatriating your car to the UK if required. "

My insurance includes european recovery, but probably not the ring?? Although if the policy doesnt specify....... Might bring a tow rope just incase.
The towing elan will have to tow in reverse though (no towing eye on the rear)
What are we doing for grub boys and girls?
I would imagine local restaraunts are going to be busy.
Couple of barbecues each?

up for a BBQ if the weathers fit. otherwise restaurant grub for me cos i hate washing up on campsites. Campsite blurb is all in German so will need to get Delta to confirm the bbq issue.
all the films i've seen of peeps on the ring don't show them wearing helmets so i'm not bringing mine, but really i guess its personal choice.

just got back from my second visit to the ring this year.
stayed in koln for a stag do ..
we all went up in hire cars!
spanked the hell out out a golf 1.6.
really took this car all the way , nothing left in it..
the car had ESP , which for me was an extra special person hidden in the electronics of the car. i did a few laps without it and had one excursion as the back caught up with me in a corner (4&5 i think)and collected a lot of grass .
with esp back on the track is still a ballsey ride.
it is difficult to get a true lap time as you cannot do a flying lap and stay out so we did not time ourselves ..(also if we did we would have got too competative and probably done somthing a bit beyond the car or our capabilitys in order to go that little bit faster)
there was a radical on track and a dtm slk that had put up a timing line just at the middle of the straight before have to come in... you then drive back through a barrier which then feeds you back through to the start of you next lap.. if you play this track on the playstation you will not feed in where you expect!!
as for crashing on track it is 1000 euros a length of armco barrier and whilst the track is a road i think insurance is void .
the circuit has recovery trucks to get you off the track back to the carpark so no need for a tow rope on the circuit , that in itself would probably kill the towing car anyway as the uphill sections are steep.
the price of a lap at present is 14 euros.. and well worth every penny.
the circuit opened at 13.00 the day we were their. and was empty had great flying laps without hinderance from faster cars. when you do see another faster car looming then it is civil to put you indicator on to let them know you have seen them ,this does not mean apply the brakes though as that causes more danger and confusion and also do not jump out the way if you are in a corner this will probably kill you especially if you are in the carousel.
i love this track , however at present i would not take my car, not with the standard brakes. although i did not cook the breaks on the golf . the other guys with a seat altra? and focus boiled the fliud and as for the two burley helicoper pilots who took a very gray nisan micra convertable the breaks gave up 3/4 of the way round thir first lap!! this could have had somthing to do with there crap driving abilitys or crap cars... not sure.
i am possibly going to buy another elan(this weekend) and it would be a turbo , slam my willwoods on and the go back to the ring and take my cart helmet.
many drivers wear them and looking at the way i drove this time i wish i had it with me.

it really is fantastic..
i was pushing and thinking just how much can i give this car , felt the esp really working hard thinking this must be near the limit, building up bit by bit , a little harder and faster,later breaking , more sideways screeching then whoosh no grip no nothing . passenger clement is now leaving the circuit.. luckily for me there was a fair bit of run of . other parts of the track would be very less forgiving.anyone who is reading this may think well i guess you were being daft .. there is no room for idiot driving on the track as it will punish you ....but it was soooooooooo good , such a weird feeling .sweaty palms , concentration at a maximum and as you say " adrenaline kick "... from start to finish it is a big big kick . it would be very easy to be a nurburgring adrenaline junky. i have not stopped thinking about it since i got back .. the corners , what i could have done better , what car i would like to take next time .. maybe i sould buy a lotus carlton , what that may be like without gizmos but stupid raw speed , so may thoughts .. i will go back for sure , but for now all i have is my new baseball cap and memory to remind me ..

jim , yes ... and maybe the time has come to chop the n/a in for a an se that i can modify further.. i feel i may have done as much as i can with mine and from here onwards it would be much cost for little gain. THIS IS WHAT THE RING HAS DONE TO ME....
i know my car is fast i have spent a lot of time and money on the engine a few years ago. i do have regular ding dongs with other cars and quite often win especially if there are twisty bits! I out drove my mate in his 2.8 944 recently and he was trying hard..but the track is the place to do it not the bypass.(even though we do)
but the type of person i am means that with my brakes as standard i would not be able to drive my car safely and without the little devil on my shoulder telling me to go faster , brake later . for this reason i have my own racing cart to tame the devil.
the turbo would be an excellent thing (but not essential) to have at nurburg. if i went with you lot with turbos then i would have to keep up with you , and i fear i could not do that safely and would crash. this again is not me trying to sound like an idiot but i know what i am like and i know even if we were not racing watching you dissapear infront of me would be a bad thing !!!
to explain what i saw , even the fast cars into the corners don't really excelarate away very quickly , but on the straights that it ..boom .. turbo kicks in ...gone. and that for me is where i would like to gain the time and driving experiance also i would hope for me , the faster the car the less i would have to get out the way , the greater the lap.
nb this is just my point of view ,as micheal said you do not have to drive a car to its limit and i agree with him totaly , but with the 1.6 golf i did and now feel i would like to take it up a notch or two...
