Silverstone Classics - July 20-22 2012

Well we were there - at Wittlebury. Just got the tent up before it chucked it down on Friday! and then the weather was fab.

I think the campsite facilities were a little overwhelmed by the number of people/mud and the walk to the circuit was a little muddy too - but none of it was their fault.

Didn't see any other LECers (yes got your PM's when I got home! - as we'd left early Friday morning). Quite a few Elans, but didn't see Blipi??

Was a good event, but seemed a bit lacking compared to previous years.

Adam Ant was Cr*p (think I could have sung his songs better - seemed like he was just going through the motions) but the Elvis tribute on Friday was great fun !

Next year would probably camp in the site opposite the circuit (weather permitting) and if all goes according to plan will be a Lotus owner again....

Shame you didn't see us. We were near the lake. The campsite was quite big which was good as it enabled people to spread out and it wasn't to noisy.

So C'mon, what's the Lotus ownership news?!

Also, didn't see any Elan owners at the Lotus stand whenever I was around it.

No Lotus ownership news at the moment - but I have a cunning plan....

I'm also under pressure from various people to organise an East Mids re-union meeting

Trig glad everything worked out well for you. Dadford Road was £10/couple/night FYI. We did 3 nights for £30 - we went down Thursday. The site was virtually empty, so never had to queue for anything.

Rambo wasn't trying to be unhelpful just injecting a bit of banter something that this site is sadly lacking these days.

Chris I'm sure Rambo has a great sense of humour and it would of been nice to meet him and you but there seem to be a large lack of comunication , shaun tried to make a list but very little response.
My wife had read Rambos posts and was trying to pull out of going which caused a unesasary strain, one I could do without the night before leaving,, still it all went well in the end just a shame we did'nt all meet up for a
maybe next time

No-one responded to my Dodford campsite post either.

Funnily, I did think I saw Rambo's mullet flapping around in an Elan for the parade...

How sad communication failed, would of been great to of had a bigger gathering around the campfire in the evenings.

To be honest we were all ummiing and arring on whether to go at all. Reports from the campsites were not encouraging. In the end Muley drove up early on thursday and did a reccy. He came to the conclusion that Dadford Road was the best option and value for money. Dadford Road is normally not open for the Classic and the site was relatively rut free from the GP.

At one time it was looking like Whittlebury would be the only site open and we were not risking turning up to Whittlebury only to find it full up from people that had booked. We were under the impression that you guys had already booked Whittlebury so didn't think to mention where we'd gone so as not to confuse matters.

I didn't take the Elan in the end, favouring the Estate which i could pack with all my home comforts - I was not going to suffer

To answer your question :

I suppose I could have gone to an internet cafe on the Thursday and made a posting on LEC but the thought never occured to me. I knew other peeps had already booked into Whittlebury and I only had Chris' & Scott's mobile numbers

you were all booked in to Whittlebury on wednesday according to the above list. We were holding fire to see what the weather was going to do. Wednesday night I was talking about only coming up for one day unless the weather/campsites showed signs of improvement. Jim phoned me Thursday morning to ask me what i was doing and told me he was going up for a reccie and he then phoned me from the site to let me know that it was passable. All a bit risky but it worked out.

Mike and the Mechanics were excellent btw, wrote off AA cos I knew he'd be crap.

Nikon D40, bottom of the range DSLR with 55-200 zoom lens. Panning takes a bit of practice but it's not difficult.

Well it was about £225 if I remeber rightly so not far off a high end point and shoot. Tbh all cameras are point and shoot these days.
