I was asked to put a deposit of £50 per person to secure the booking (Hotel & Ferry) which was £100 in my case. By credit card was OK.

I'm fairly sure I won't be doing the track session.

Why?

Well, obvious really, I've never done one before and therefore in order of importance I don't want to put others or their cars at risk, put myself or my car at risk and finally hold others up with my novice driving in a stock Elan. I'm planning to take an advanced sportscar driving course in the Spring, so maybe I'll have a go some time after that.

My thoughts are, if possible, to video the track session but if that's not possible then to have a go on the Karts. I'm assuming that it's the Duke circuit we will be going to?

Really looking forward to the trip.

Its a very safe circuit and not likely to be damaging to car or driver. I used a stock Elan the first year and there was no problem apart from the piss taking cos I was overtaken by an old woman on a push bike.

I spoke to Linzi yesterday who confirmed all the bookings as shown- just checking up on you. The Glen Helen only has 13 rooms available so it looks like we're filling the place up.

Well who am i to break tradition my wifes car is also box standard except for some small blemishes is anyone else coming from the north.

Car to be taken will not be decided until much nearer the day - that will also have a bearing on weather i do the track day or not!

I even considered taking the Triumph (the nice red/white/blue one, not the yellow shed) and entering in the Isle Of Man Historic rally that weekend - but decided against it (Well, Angie did anyway)

However, i hearby give notice that i will be dissapearing for a short time to watch a bit of the rallying, assuming that the routing is conducive to a good spectator stage...........anyone got any info on that one?

I like the first idea.

however, i had the event details in the post a while ago giving the details of the stages (mainly 'cos they were trying to get me to commit to an entry and buy some pace notes).

That said, depending on the roads used, some stages are not open to public spectating, and they usually have 'designated viewing areas' on others......

Either way, it will be nice to watch a bit (personally i have more interest in the Historic event, than the main Championships, but will want to see some of it)

the Isle Of Man Historic rally that weekend

Has anyone got any idea how popular this event is?

Can we expect to find thousands of like minded people at 6.30am on the Sunday?

Hi Paul
Some roads will be closed for particular stages but these are not necessarily the roads we drive on and we should be always able to avoid them or find alternatives. It rarely has much effect on normal Island activities and therefore should not bother us too much if we avoid it/or as may be possible watch a stage. The rally is due to be over on the Saturday- so we will have another day and a half of unobstructed activity.
Either way we have quite long days which we can use unlike the Autumn.
As yet I have not been able to get hold of the schedule but we will have that by the time we go and we can just work around or with it.

The IOM Rally is basically a full round of many championships - it is a week of 'events' starting with a p1$$-up on the Tuesday (sorry, a BBQ get-together!), recces on the Wed, Scrutineering on the Thu, Rallying stages on Fri and Sat, prize-giving on Saturday.

However, the roads used for the event are NOT the main tourist roads, and it is actually quite a short event (in total stage miles - 160 main / 120 historic).

The first cars off the gate will be the WRC championship motors, then the 'modern' club cars, and eventually the Historics (when i last did the event there were about 80 in the main event, and 45 in the Historic)

I can't find an electronic version of the route maps, but if i remember after Christmas, I'll dig out my old road books and see what the routing is.

Although it is a popular event, it is not a 'crowded' venue unlike some others.
