we are open to suggestions but with 400 odd miles to cover in a day(more for the aberdeen boys) the motorway is on the cards for a large part.

come off J19 m6...then head for macclesfield.....
macclesfield to buxton on the cat and fiddle road a537
then buxton to ashbourne a515
then asbourne to donny a50

It certainly IS! And probably because of that it's officially Britain's most dangerous road, even though it's 50MPH all the way. The Cat & Fiddle pub at the crest even has a map showing which corners claimed riders, and whether the accidents were minor, serious or fatal. A mate of mine did a "Wall of Death" routine around some armco right in front of me up there.

The A537 is also about the most heavily policed, with unmarked cop Fireblades, BMWs, and even a spotter plane.

Worth the risk?

I think the 'network' has been working overtime again....
I use the cat and fiddle everyday and that includes weekends......the poilce do have the odd bike and the odd car too but very infrequent.....they prefer the high visibility option and if you know the road you can see where theyre parked.......its the muppets on bikes theyre after geneally due to the fact that there's a rather high percentage that dont make it from buxton to macclesfield in one piece
its also very scenic if you dont put your foot down too far!!!!

oh and as far as the plane goes.........
its generally a jellybopter and they are out to spot crashes....
you cant be done from the air!!!......
my mate is an inspector with derbyshire police and he has told me that 90% of these signs are just deterants.......

sounds like a plan g. up here we call them doners. every weekend in the summer there is at least 2 or 3 fatalitys as they leave there bikes and smash into the scenery round loch lomond.

As long as you don't cross double whites and assume that the next bend is a 90 degree-er if you can't see properly, then you should be fine annd it will still be fun.
In fact, if you can maintain 50MPH along that road then you're in the wrong job!

Other news - Mike rolled his Elan a week before xmas :shock:
He slid down the road on the topside of the car (and his head) for a few hundred yards :( I reckon he's lucky to be alive but he got away with stitches and a skin graft. Not sure what state the car is in but it can't be good.

Andrew Ennis and I will be driving down on the Friday (both cars), but are as yet undecided whether we spend Friday night at Westonben's new house in Leeds (and the three of us drive to Donington services for the Saturday meet) or at the Marlborough Arms curry with everybody else.

We'll discuss it this week.
