Jim - you realise that 'The Oldtimers GP' is on on the GP circuit Friday thru to Sunday don't you. When i get a programme (and an interpreter  ) i'll work out what i want to see which will by and large set out the w/e and when i go on the ring.

Money wise i will pay by credit card wherever possible and will probably take about 200euros cash for tolls and other cash only things. You should be able to get cash from a machine though.

If i've got any room in the car i'll try and stuff some disposable bbqs in. Campsites don't normally like you to put the bbqs direct on the ground so i will try and get one of those stand thingies. If others can do the same it will sort out the evening meals. Yes stef deffo paper plates. Just hope it doesn't rain. i will be taking a small gas stove just for making tea but i might take a saucepan to do some beans if someone else will wash it up???

Ring on the 12th August

Postby texas2201 » Tue 01.08.2006, 22:04

Hi Guys

I will be there on the 12th August but not in the Elan I will be in my BMW E30 M3 - MUI 2382 - come over and say hello. I will be there with a load of BMW buddies.

We are there for four days

I always wear a helmet

you must carry 170 euros cash in case you crash and need to be recovered - the recovery vehicle only takes cash - also if you damage any barrier you will have to pay for its replacement. one Irish guy on my last trip a month or so agoo had to pay 2,500euros for barrier repairs.....

take your first lap slowly and build your speed up carefully and keep your eyes on your mirrors - move to the left and indicate to let faster drivers through

hope to see some of you there

Martin

Here you go guys - a link to driving in Germany and speeds restrictions etc.. Other details and restrictions can be found for France and Belgium

http://www.drivingabroad.co.uk/content. ... y&navid=17

Have a good time and remember - it is illegal to wash your pride and joy on a public highway in Germany and also illegal to throw your Saurkraut out of the window at speeds in excess of 75 mph

F.Y.I.
Nürburgring is located in the middle of nowhere, with only a few small villages around, so there is no great shopping/siteseeing in the area.

There are 2 or 3 banks at the ring, they are open both days, and do have cash machins. If you have a Visa, you will be ok.

You are normally allowed to make a bunfire at the campsite, so bbq no problem at all. LKD brings a large open tent (4x8m) to house us all during a rainy evening og a to sunny morning.
And we do have all that danish beer............

Ring

Postby texas2201 » Tue 01.08.2006, 22:40

We usually go to the Pistenklaus for drinks and food of an evening - I will be staying up the road from it at the Hotel Zur Burg

there is a go kart track and a good museum and .......... a petrol station and thats your lot - oh and a lot of racing repair garages

A good repair garage is Ring Racing run by two brothers who are very helpful

I would also reccomend taking some spare brake pads for the front as the Ring is very heavy on brakes

if you bring a helmet I am happy to take some for pax laps as I have an annual ticket - might help you with the line round the track

KInda puts you off a bit eh?

What pressure are you putting in your tyres chaps/chapeses?
I mean for the overall run not just the ring. I'm thinking 32psi all round what with all the motorway driving. (16" wheels)

Bonfires allowed :) Anyone play the banjo?

Oh, I'm fully kitted out now. Small GB sticker from halfords. Dont think i've any room for a first aid kit anyhow :?

Thats some big bucks for recovery! Suppose its the same amount wether you crash or simply breakdown??? Balls to that, i'll get Monty to push it

Do you all want to meet before going onto the ferry so we all go on at the same time. This will mean that we should be in the same group getting off the other end.

The group from UK is as follows:-

Chris.t + D
Jimp + S
Dico + M
Stef + R
Stevo + ?

We need to be at the Ferry terminal at 8am :( We could meet there as there is a large area just before the check in gates. Follow the signs for P&O Ferries and the car symbol and you'll get there. Warning you may have your car searched - well they have a poke around and ask you to open the boot, nothing too horrendous. I would advise you not to have a copy of the karan on the dashboard though  the whole procedure takes about 2 minutes so no hassle really.

What does everyone think about that?

COSTAS - are you going to meet in Calais or on route (or not at all :( ). Let us know as and when m8.

Only a week to go now!!!!
