Le Mans Classic 9th July 2010 and Brittany Break 2010

I'm just using estimates for travel times at the moment and not having any driving experience in France would need to add a hefty chunk to my initial thoughts.

Until this evening I had not looked at anything but I'm now thinking of getting everything booked in the next couple of days.

Dico still has no idea as to what he's doing with regards to the LMC. I'm thinking maybe of traveling down on the Saturday, staying in a B&B, LMC on the Sunday and then either staying in a B&B on the Sunday night or traveling down to lain's parents assuming the Gite is available? Maybe traveling home on the following Friday or Saturday.

really sorry but im going to have to pull out.
Just moved house, after working out fuel costs and spend etc it takes the cost above what i can currently warrant spending.
it would be a 1500 miles trip for me.
soooo disappointed as id got my hopes up.
please run this again for 2011

I was just going to text you.

I think you are overestimating slightly with your £300 in fuel. 570miles (Huddersfield to Le Mans) there and the same back should cost about £160 @ 35mpg add two tanks for the week and you would be looking at £240 max. £175 - £200ish for everything else means your total cost should be about £415 - £440.

not sure of my mpg but 18p a mile is the best ive had so far, theres over a weeks food and entertainment aswell.

dont forget LMC finishes at 4pm on the sunday......there are 4 classifications running in 3 x 2hr sessions.......
so you may miss different ages of cars.......

Fair enough, it wont be the same without you and I'm a bit disappointed not to have you both along but I know what happens when cash is a bit tight.

For the record 18p per mile would equal 6.1 miles per Litre @ 110p per Litre. This is 27.78mpg which is about what I was running open loop commuting to work. Closed loop I get just over 30 MPG on the commute and have hit over 40 MPG in my old Elan (S2) down to London, including North circular rush hour and getting lost whilst trying to escape.

Anyway, See you next weekend!!

you certainly will! ive spent all day so far tinkering with mine, my seat belts are shot so thats another bloody expense! got the 230v elec heater going to dry my footwells out so i can make it sparkle for next weekend

Time will run away with us if we do not make some hard and fast decisions early on........

In respect to the time spent in Brittany are there any particular things we would like to be doing? If so let me know so I can try to begin organiation of these.

Also if there are any fluent French speakers who would like to help then that would be great

Always fancied going for a bike ride as there are some great quiet roads around. Bit of exercise too!

Good news......

We are also in France for Bastille Day (Wed 14th)

Last year the local town celebrations were something to behold! They had various live bands playing all sorts of music throughout the town centre. Everything from heavy metal to traditional salsa

Beer tents for the non designated drivers and a fabulous firework display.

I'll be going to the LMC, probably camping with ClubMotorsport.org.uk. (Showers, meals, beer!)
Part of the fun in '08 was parking with the Lotus crowd inside the circuit, with direct access to the marshalling area.
Definitely worth exploring if that's available this year. (Sorry if I'm covering old ground - skipped several pages.)

Not going to the racing (unless A gives me permission to abandon her in Brittany ) - it's just a holiday for us!

As such, beach, museum, M-St-M, Grenville, Honfleur (if not too much of a trek), treasure hunt, BBQ, game of pool, day fixing Pauls brakes, etc etc all sound good!

Basically up for a nice break, and a few cheeky glasses (or flaggons) of Cider and Calvados....Bring on 14th July
