Car's just been mot'd and back on the road and should be ready for the convoy down south. Plan to make it this time, as you know gearbox packed in all because the 5th gear retaining nut slackened off and locked the syncromesh and prevented me from selecting gears. Took a month to fix, cost a fortune, gearbox out job, had to replace the selector cables, new clutch, new pressure plate and new release bearing, forgotten what else.

Will meet everyone at abbington at 12, if thats ok?

I gave last year's timings in an earlier post in this thread, however last year we met Dico, Monty and Simon 51mon Knutsford services about 5.15 (we were over an hour late by then.

This year it will be quite possible to get to Knutsford by say 16.00 hrs, departing at 16.15 hrs (if we don't spend ages stuffing our faces with Graham's bacon rolls). Leaving Aberdeen at 8 and allowing for the inevitable delays meeting several people at rendezvous en route it won't be possible to get there much earlier than 4pm. That should still get us to the Melbourne Arms by say 6.30pm.

If you'll be good enough to meet and lead us as far as a point where you're sure we won't get lost, it'll be a late afternoon to evening job.

Once we get a few more names I'll coordinate and distribute meeting times and mobile phone numbers. Say by a week before Donington.

some local knowledge required please, to define a meeting point ...

Last year we met at the Knutsford services on the M6, however as far as I can see that will be no good for your proposed route as the Knutsford services are south of the junction where we need to turn off for Knutsford and Macclesfield (see map).

Can you suggest a place to meet? Ideally someplace obvious with a big car park, say between the M6 and Knutsford town.

follow your map from the motorway.....on your way into knutsford you'll pass over the m6 and pass the services on your right....keep going until you get to a roundabout (rolls dealer ship opposite)...turn right.....
keep in the left hand lane....at the second set of lights turn left..... the road bends (approx 80deg) to the right keep to the right as you go round the corner and its straight on.......you'll come to a roundabout...staight on....keep going until you see a sign 'MARTHALL' the pub is just before a cross roads on your left hand side......

Any chance of some more explicit directions?

if you want to do the cat and fiddle then I suggest trying to get through macclesfield before 4 - 4:30 at the latest...is grinds to a halt sometimes and friday is finishing early day!!!!....

We're not 100% sure as to when we are setting off as yet.

sounds like you had a productive and happy day in the garage improving the car.
It'll be great to see you & Monty somewhere along the route, so I hope you can meet
up with us at one of the points on the itinery. You have our 'phone numbers to make
contact on Friday.

Hopefully (snow permitting) we can keep to schedule a bit better than last year.
As you surmised, some of us couldn't leave Grahame's bacon rolls alone (I leave
you to guess the guiltiest parties, but a clue is that our whisky-swilling womanising
bon viveur is coming from the south this year). Sadly, Grahame doesn't seem to
be attending, but we have a reasonable contingent.

We should be on time, fuelled up, and with no need to rush.

don't worry, I'm sure one of the things Dico has on his Project list is to fix his
speedo as it's obviously over-reading something 'orrible.

My speedo IS reading 10% fast but at some points, after roundabouts mainly, i had to do over a ton for quite a distance in order to catch up
Just wait till Donny 2007 when the ATB is fitted, It'll be like a rocket round them roundabouts
