Just to gage initial interest. My parents have a place in France with ample space for camping etc (Swimming pool, Games room, Mums cooking )

Only aprox hour and a half from St malo. Fantastic roads and French Police not sure what a Lotus is

Yes site is in French.

Hidden gem this one, as they have a formula 1 grid feturing aprox 20 cars including ex senna cars and shumaker? Huge place, and if anyone is good at French, they also have autojumbles, and track days througout the year. (they have their own track!)

Or you could just translate with google...

I liked the idea to start with, I was nearly sold when I read this bit, and if you can tell me that Calvados is freely available as well, I'll be there!!!

As for dates I am open to suggestions.....If someone speaks/reads good French it may be woth exploring the track day/Autojumble events for next year at motor museum.

If anyone is tempted but a little worried about risking the great out doors, my parents also do have a gite available (at extra cost) I believe it is able to sleep six non outdoor types

This site is also a good indication of other things that are local. They are located aprox 30 min From Rennes and aprox forty five mins from the coast.

Please be aware that I am not trying to drum up trade for parents Gite, as I would rather camp (much more fun) but I thought I had better provide the option for those people who prefer the finer things in life....You know who you are

Another factor may be the cost of crossing the channel, as this varies depending on time of year. I can honestly say that it is worth exploring the options available. But in case you are interested here is the Brittany ferries web page.

There`s no ferry dates for 2008 so did a check for August this year to get an idea of cost £276.50 1car, 2 passengers, 1 cabin.

The other choice would be speedferries Dove to Boulogne which you could get for approx £50 then drive the rest of the way but it looks quite a distance from Boulogne to st Malo

Just checked on the TomTom and from Boulogne to St Malo would be 4 1/2 hours 300miles

Maybe when we decide on dates and get the Portsmouth Ferry it will be alot cheap if we booked well in advanced

Long journeys in France are tempting, but I always think that fuel costs etc tend to prohibit them. Also its nice to get on ferry about seven have a meal, go to bar, watch entertainment, and arrive refreshed for a nice whole day of french adventures!

I seem to always end up paying aprox £220 for car two people and a cabin. (I do not tend to have a cabin on return journey as it is usually a day crossing).

Also Portsmouth St Malo leaves you with only about an hour and a half drive rather than the four!

I am fully flexible on dates, as I do not want to overlap with any other goings on.

Plymouth - Roscoff could be an option - tried some dates for this august - came in at 335 with 2 in a car and a cabin
