Jim Clark weekend @ Duns

Anyone up for the Club Lotus Jim Clark weekend on 2nd and 3rd May 2009?
Rambo and myself did the Sunday bit a few years back and it was great fun.

Saturday 2nd
0930 - Assemble in the car park in South Queensferry. Photo opportunity under the Forth Road and Rail Bridges
0945 - Set off on route up to Kilmany.
1045 - Visit Jim Clark statue in Kilmany
1115 - Leave Kilmany on scenic route to St. Andrews and on to the Motor Museum at Bo’ness.
1230 - Lunch at the Museum.
1330 - Leave Bo’ness, drive down to Duns and the Jim Clark Memorial Room.
1730 - Disperse to hotel accommodation.
1930 - Dinner with our guest speaker - Bob Dance - at the Black Bull in Duns. (Places are limited and pre-booking is essential, contact details below)

Sunday 3rd
1000 - Assemble and display cars outside the Jim Clark Room.
1100 - Scenic run to places of interest in surrounding countryside.
1230 - Lunch in the Black Bull
1345 - Cavalcade via Duns town centre to Jim Clark Memorial at Chirnside Cross. Lay wreath at Jim’s grave.
1430 - Visit Harelaw Motor Racing Gallery.
1600 - Reassembly outside Memorial Room. Coffee in Black Bull.

I cant get looged in at work due to browser something and never anytime at home.

Anyone seen Bob Dicksons latest CL newsletter, the guff about fwd not being a real lotus/going off at a tangent etc.

Afraid I'm totally out of touch with LEC, too much marathon training again, going to London this w/e then Edinbugger on 31/5, so not sure about Jim Clark but plan to make the Knockhill Speedfair with Rambo as usual.

Scott, as for Bob Dickson and the fwd comment, I think some old timers can't see what an important car the M100 is for Lotus. It took a lot of guts for a performance car manufacturer to design and build a fwd sports car. I think they more than proved a point - the performance and handling still stand-up today. I've said it before, the only problem the M100 has is that it was called an Elan - that's sacrilege in some peoples eyes

You were in big trouble if you were in the company of Gareth, GeeO, Bibs etc....No doubt the tsambuka and tequila bottles got hammered !!

Don't know if I can be arsed with Duns - although I may have a drive over on Saturday and get insulted by the old farts again ............"shame it's not a REAL Lotus"............... Still, at least our cars survived the slow, potholed drive around Charterhall airfield and didn't boil over. Blimey, you have to laugh don't you !!

The bar at the Thistle closed at about 1.30, much to the annoyance of the LEF boys! After that, alcohol could be purchased only from the porter at the reception desk.

I know what you mean about some of the older CL boys, Mark, but if enough of us turn up then we can shout them down(in the nicest possible way) if they trot out their "not a real Lotus" tripe again.

I've arranged with Ron that Maggie & I will be down for the event.
We'll drive down on Saturday, probably meeting the group at the Bo'ness lunch stop between 12:30 & 1:30. for the drive to Duns. We're not going to the dinner.

I'm looking forward to the Sunday events, and will try to stay until the end.

So, who's going and for which days?

I reckon I'll turn up at South Queensferry on Saturday morning and do the St Andrews thing, winding up at Boness for lunch. Then I'll probably just head back to Edinburgh as I'll not be going to the dinner either. Sunday morning I'll drive down to Duns for the 10am display and see how the rest of the day pans out from there.

I plan to go to the gathering at South Queensferry on the Saturday before nicking off to Murrays to pick up some parts. I'll then head to Bo'ness for lunch and then do the run down to Duns. I'm not sure if I'll head home after that or stay overnight and do the Sunday.

I am going to Jim clark thing,
I am hoping to go out with andy laing tommorow to check duns part of run in my M100 andy is taking elise SC, i know how people feel about the areas of peoples interest and i own an S1 elise as well but the m100 is just so much more usable as for this snubbing of the M100 well that is why the LOtus Club cannot get younger people involved, if u own a lotus u are surporting the marque no matter its cost or age and untill this is accepted that we can all surrport the marque in some way then i do not see the problem, we can all go out and by an original elan of some description wheel it out once a year and think we are superior to all others , its just my beef but i feel M100 owners do not help them selves by keeping seperate and feeling that we should not really be under the lotus banner because we appreciate and feel deeply that the car is part of lotus history and deserves its place with any car they have produced- there said it feel better now and what will they say when i buy my baby elan to join the garage.

John - if you're interested, I know of a good place in the Borders, not far from Duns. Large detached house, lovely riverside location and with big, well tended gardens. Plenty of space for parking

The lady is an excellent chef and her puddings are to die for. Only problem is she doesn't do fry ups for breakfast. It's all healthy stuff - freshly baked bread, fruits etc... The bloke's a bit of a tosser but he's harmless really. He's stuck in a 70's time warp and the only thing he's got going for him is that he's got a good malt whisky selection and also is into the Lotus marque. He has an M100 and might be persuaded to drive to Duns - probably only on the Sunday though

I might try and make it to some part of the saturday, really busy at work so it depends how much i get done over the next few days, what the weather is going to be like and what the girlfriend thinks! I'll probably just meet up in st. andrews as thats not far away from me.
