Thanks and the aftermath!

Just a quick post for those who turned up and made the weekend a success.

I was surprised by the number of people who came up and said they had just bought an Elan, and I hope they went away with their questions answered.

I think special thanks are due to

Neil - organising the curry night and support with extra bits that I forgot (chairs / stationery
Dave Speck - being there the whole time and putting his car on the stand at short notice / raffle / setting up and taking down
Shaun - for putting his car on the stand
Dave Eds - setting up and support
Graham - support and displaying a car (nearby!)
Dave Pink - support, taking down the stand
Gareth - supplying bits / support
Nick (owalker) & Geoff - support
Bob and Mrs Bob - support on Sunday
Martin and Mrs Martin - support and the well-needed coffee!
Initkin - for putting the strips of webbing on the stand - very popular they were, too
Sy - Marshalling and being there.

Also, someone left some springs for someone else (?) and they weren't collected - I just managed to fit them in the car with the stand and my luggage - they are in my garage now. If you want them PM me and you can arrange for collection - otherwise they go as parts for sale - if unsold they go to the tip..

Numbers may have been down on previous years but I still had a great weekend & I'm sure others did too. Thanks to everyone involved.

Big thanks to everybody involved. I thought the stand looked great with the large background photos, well done to all.

Taking part in the main convoy to the show is always a great experience, so thanks to all who participated in that.

Not so sure about the photographer at the entrance though! He rather broke up the effect of a huge number of Elans pulling into the car park all at once. I did consider not stopping but wasn't prepared to mow his assistant down!

I agree with all of the recognition of actions above. It was great to see so many old faces and meet up with some more recent additions to the fold.
But, just to emphasize what a mixed bunch we really are, special mention goes to the long-time LEC member (who shall remain nameless) who, when asked by the photographer to wind down his window and smile replied with "How does f**k off sound, mate?"

But if you are so poor that you have to SORN your Lotus just before the biggest event in the year, I suppose I'd be too embarassed to go in as well.

I had no such qualms - waved him aside and carried on - i don't think he believed i wouldn't stop.......... well, he did dive off to the side at the last moment.

Looks as though it was a good weekend, I do like Albert's trailer! Thanks to all who made it work, I fully intend to be back in the fray next year (or possibly later this year if there are any more events). Even though I was a considerable distance away (in Russia) I did find myself thinking how it was all going and missing it, you certainly appear to have had better weather than I did, which is a first for Donington.

What was attendance overall like, as I'm wondering if overall numbers were impacted by it being in the holiday season?

overall numbers down by as much as 50% IMHO possibly due to holiday season, economic climate and just not being on when it was always traditionally on. No SW Lotus or Sinclaires. But the display of show cars was more organised and eyecatching.

I didn't see any queues to get in, as opposed to previous years. I don't think that the effect the holiday season had on the attendance can be overestimated. Apart from absolute die hards, anybody taking a two week holiday within the period two weeks either side of the show week-end, in other words most of August, would probably have been affected.
