The LEC International M100 Weekend - 9~11 Sept 2016

Postby theelanman » Wed 20.04.2016, 14:43

LEC International M100 Weekend

9th-11th Sept 2016 – Buxton, Derbyshire.

The inaugural LEC International M100 Weekend is to take place in the beautiful English spa town of Buxton.
Buxton is one of most popular tourist destinations in the Peak District famed for its natural spring water and Georgian architecture. The town's rich history features Roman settlers, royal prisoners, outlaws and noble benefactors.

The town's magnificent architecture also includes The Pavilion Gardens, 23 acres of award winning ornamental gardens including serpentine walkways, children's play areas, lake and a miniature railway. There is a historic Winter Gardens linking the Opera House with the main complex.

The University of Derby's Buxton campus is set under the Devonshire Dome which is the largest unsupported dome in the country with a diameter of 174ft and open to visitors.

The event will start on the Friday evening with a leisurely curry in convivial surroundings with adequate time allocated for those who require a little more rehydration.

Saturday will also be a gentle start with a mid/late morning rendezvous, where route maps will be given out (Tulip Maps) and the exploration of the Peak starts.

There is no time limit on the route, the idea being that you lake a leisurely drive out and enjoy the scenery and possibly a pub lunch should you so wish.

On your return you will be able to partake in high tea if you wish…..or just an ice cream on the promenade…….not forgetting to leave enough time to spruce yourselves up for the grand finale dinner on the Saturday night.

Sunday being the day of rest is there to give you a lie in…..maybe grab a late breakfast, early lunch……or if you’ve arranged a farewell coffee with new or old friends……before heading off in your own directions.

We do hope this is of interest and look forward to seeing you all…….

Gareth - Let me know if you need any help within the locale. Have you sorted out a big meet venue?

This sounds really good, great location too, I wish I was there to support it!

All credit to the elanman for his efforts  - I hope it is a great success and the start of many subsequent LEC meetings.

I will lead the Scottish convoy if it doesn't clash with my National Trust beer festival in Coggeshall (Grange Barn) which I pikeyjet too each year . If it was good enough for Henry VIII then its good enough for me .

Hmmm,

It appears that the best way for me to get to this event is probably to head north up the M5/M6.......

......then when I get to Mad Kiltland, grab a bed for the night.....

.....then join the Clan McElan convoy heading south :D

I'll try and persuade some of the old Clan McElan nutters - Stevo, Big Erch, Scott.... :drunk: :gathering: :burnout:

The "whisky breakfast" is long overdue and I have a fantastic cask from Croftinloan distillery :porn:

Would love to be there, but it clashes with Goodwood Revival. If it becomes an Annual Event, count me in for 2017!! Hope it is a very successful day for you all and I'll be there in spirit!

But it does have the advantages of being much cheaper, less crowded and a lot closer to Scotland.

Dave,

Why not visit your son in Leuchars beforehand and the hook up with Clan McElan (still only John, Mags and myself at present) heading south. You're welcome to stay here if you want to break your journey either way

Mark,

We're coming up to see him for the tattoo in August - not sure where he is going to be in September..... but it's an option.

It's all a bit too far in the future for definite plans, but no harm in looking at all the various options.

This sounds like a great idea and wish I could come but will only just be returning from the Isle of Man a few days before and think another weekend pass will be beyond even my great negotiating talents! I hope you all enjoy the weekend and look forward to seeing the photos!
