Modified MGF hard top for Elan now sold

Postby david924s » Fri 26.06.2020, 14:26

I have a modified MGF hard top in black I bought the hard top last year thinking it would be a good idea for my car but I have changed my mind prefer it as a soft top and it is sitting in my garage on a proper hard top stand and ready for sale, I have seen it fitted to another car and have trial fitted it on my car when I bought it, it fits really well and the seals seem to be a good fit around the rear and window areas.

I have all the brackets for fitting it to the car at the sides and also those to replace the ones at the windscreen so everything you need to fit it to your car, the hood has a roof lining and glass rear screen with heated element and cabling if you want to install the heated rear screen.

I also have pictures of how the brackets were fitted to the previous car so making refitting a simple operation.

I have pictures of it fitted to the previous car before I bought it (used pictures I got from seller on here) see below and can take some others later but just gauging any interest I would be looking for around £500 including the roof stand which was bought new last year and makes it very easy to store the roof safely with ease of movement. I can try to post pictures later if anyone is interested let me know.
Also added a picture of another MGF roof with dimensions taken from mine for anyone wanting to check on transportation.

You are correct my mistake I was writing in another area about some MX5 seats I had fitted and got a little mixed up changed the title to be MGF and thanks for pointing it out trying to do too many things at once.
It is a modified MGf hard top and yes I bought this from Graaf last October or thereabouts (pictures are those I got from him before I bought it.

I thought I recognised it as coming from Graaf's car as he purchased it up in Edinburgh and a few others were interested in the car at the same time

Good luck with the sale

Yep, definitely from my car and I can say that I drove the car down from Edinburgh in heavy rain with no leaks.

It does seem to fit really well, had it on my car to test fit and it certainly seals to the windows and around the doors better than the soft top does (even with Jamie's seals fitted), I was all set to make use of it but with the recent decent weather it made me realize I like the soft top better or at least the car with it down, so thought I might as well sell it on. Hard top stand is something I could recommend though as it makes safe storage of the roof easier and takes less space floor area wise, not cheap but useful, even has a waterproof cover so I suppose at a push you could leave it outside if space is a premium.

Hi David. Is this top still for sale? I had tried to get the construction info for making one of these years ago, but was unsuccessful. I would be very interested in buying this hard top.

Hi Michael,
It is sold it went at the start of October, to a nice guy on the forum who I think may have plans to eventually use it to make a mold and either make up the parts to adapt your own MGF hard top or make complete hard tops not sure which or when as I know from talking to him he had a lot of other work on, he makes canoes so working with glass fibre should be no issue for him.
