Trunk won't open M100 S2

Postby elan_swiss » Mon 03.07.2017, 20:44

Dear all

I'm unable to open the trunk with the keys.
It seems that the lock moves a little bit....
Is there any trick to open the trunk and fix the lock?

Best regards

You say it moves - That probably means that the retaining clip has moved. assuming you have the correct key.

Push down lightly on the trunk to take the pressure off the lock.

Turn the key which should now require less force to open.

Remove the oval bung and push the clip back home.

That's a fair assumption as my door keys have never matched the boot key :?

Edited this comment - see my next post below for clarification

I've got one key for doors and trunk - and yes I'm sure ;-)

Will give it a try tonight...

Sorry, ignore what I just said above

I have one key which opens the door and the boot on my NMY. And I have one key that opens the door and the boot on the black one

It was my red one where I had 2 separate keys. And this was because I changed the boot lock !!

local locksmith. The key is very basic so easy for someone with the tools to open. They can then fix to lock to match your key again.

If the lock is loose in the boot skin, then it indicates that the 'U' clip is not holding it properly - a bit of wiggling may make the clip detatch fully, then the actual lock will fall out of the boot skin, you can release the mechanism (which is bolted to the boot lid) with a screwdriver, stick or finger, open the boot and refit it all properly.... failing that, it may be that you need to muller the lock with a screwdriver and replace it with a new barrel :(

Isn't this just the keys locked in the boot scenario plus unclipping the lock once you're in? :smt102

The S2 boot is different from the SE so the "keys locked in boot" scenario won't work.

Are locksmiths expensive in the UK? There are 20 mobile locksmiths per square mile around here and if you catch one nearby, it would cost around $15.00 (10 quid) for them to open it with a jiggler or just raking the lock.

They would know if the lock was not securely clipped and have probably worked that situation numerous times.

Why mess up the barrel if you don't have to? You would still need a locksmith to re-key a different barrel to take the original key (nobody wants to have an additional key just for the boot).

Wow. That explains why there are work-arounds. Most car insurances in the US include lock-out service as well...

NMY? Black one? and red? Can't keep the keys straight? This, sir, sounds like a classic First World Problem. :-D
