Hello
Firstly, many thanks to the 17 members who have expressed interest in the "clear rear light covers". Non-binding survey launched 2 weeks ago, so - as no additional requests are forthcoming - will cut off this initial list as of today as I promised to contact the supplier around mid April. Any subsequent requests will therefore start at N°18. The result to date gives 20 pairs (account taken of Danevansgolf's wish for 1 side only). I will therefore recontact the manufacturer/supplier and try and negotiate a better price for our members and will revert back ASAP (probably around end of April). The initial price quoted was subject to a minimum order of 15 pairs, so hopefully with 20 pairs more favourable conditions will be obtained. It is to be noted that the supplier requests an "advance" of 35% in order to secure the order (guarantee of goodwill). But we'll come to that "bridge" in good time. Manufacture - as stated at the very start - would be roughly 2 months as from date of order. Details of packaging and dispatch will naturally have to be worked out in the event of a definite order. So we are a fairly long way off for the moment should all this finally materialise. I'll keep you posted nevertheless. Again many thanks to you all. Below is the first list of "interested parties" (17 in all with a total of 20 pairs).

1. Clemo COVERS X 2pair
2. M100TURBOFR x1pair
3. Brit-Car-Nut x1pair
4. HansM x1pair
5. Essex x1pair
6. Danevansgolf 1R/S
7. Donsladek x1pair
8. Simon P x 3 pairs
9. Miller 1 pair
10. Gwigzee 1 pair
11. TD2 - 1 pair
12. Steve Matthews 1 pair
13. John_W : 1 pair of clear covers
14. SIVASLIAN serge 1 pair
15. Quantum 1 pair
16. Dunnlor 1 pair
17. RichardK 1 Pair

Don't hestitate should you have any questions/queries. I'll do my best to answer.

I'd be interested in a pair depending on cost. Maybe even 2 depending on price. What material will they be made of?

Good point Justin.

David - I have re-read your thread and can't see the initial price quoted for 15 sets ?? I'm fairly sure with a ball park figure you would get more takers that could make it even more economically beneficial to LEC'rs. Mind you, it could just go the other way :(

There are a lot of people on here who hoard spare M100 parts. They may not need them right now but want to have them just in case things go wrong and a ball park figure might just tempt them.

The initial thread where David mentions his work in finding a manufacturer quotes €480 per pair but does not answer Wayne’s question about material type.

Re: M100 Rear light covers - Remanufacture

Postby M100TURBOFR » Sat 27.04.2019, 10:12

Hello
Justin - Rambo : Yes my supplier's initial quote was 480€ per pair (250€ for one unit irrespective of side). Precisely Rambo, giving a price was my big mistake. Out of 246 views only 4 members expressed interest and confirmed a possible purchase for 4 pairs. Justifiably other members were no doubt put off by the proposed figure. I therefore tackled the problem in a different way by asking members to say who had cracked/damaged rear light covers while stressing that it was - for the moment - a non-binding proposal with a view to gauging interest for these now obsolete parts. Result : to date 767 views and a potential order for 24 pairs.
We have therefore our minimum order quantity of 15 pairs. Based on this and subsequent requests, I therefore recontacted the manufacturer/supplier to try and renegociate a better price. I am awaiting his reply and hopefully will manage to obtain better conditions for our members. However lots of details have still to be sorted out. I'll naturally keep you all posted.

John - thanks for replying to Justin re the initial quote.

Wayne - I have requested more info re the production process and material and will revert back to you ASAP. As far as I can gather it's an injection moulding process.
Hope this suffices for the time being.

Re: M100 Rear light covers - Remanufacture

Postby M100TURBOFR » Thu 02.05.2019, 15:04

Hello All
As promised I'm reverting back with my final proposal. The parts in question (rear light protective covers) can indeed be manufactured. In the event of a firm order - minimum 15 pairs - we benefit from a preferential price (compared to normal selling price) and this for all subsequent orders. A priori we have 21 interested parties (perhaps 23 with Wayne and Justnogood). I'll leave it up to you to decide whether you wish to go ahead. Note that packaging and postage will of course be in addition as will be the transportation cost of the parts to me here in France (to be confirmed at a later date).
A downpayment of 25% - purchaser commitment - is requested by the supplier in order to launch the production. The balance will be due on completion of production and prior to dispatch to me.

This venture was solely intended to find a source for these obsolete parts and I consider I have succeeded. I will not make any profit at all but I naturally do not wish to find myself in debt due to any defaulting. By confirming your order you commit yourself. Furthermore, as proof of my integrity and honesty, I'd appreciate it if some members - BCN (John), Geoff (my CO pot), Trevor, Dave (Clemo) whom I have met personally, and perhaps Matt Schulde could vouch for me. Thank you.

Production process
Anti-UV treated polyurethane-based resin providing superior resistance to external exposure (ultraviolet, moisture, temperature) compared to metallic mould injected polycarbonates. The latter manufacturing process (metallic mould) is extremely expensive and amortization is impossible on small/medium quantity series. A vacuum casting method, more suited for the small quantities envisaged, has therefore been adopted.

Markings: SE11 RE11 FE11 E11 etc, etc… Although mandatory – here in France in any case (and doubtless in the UK) – this aspect is never controlled/inspected during the MOT. Reference is made to it on the control sheets but it does not fall under any of the stipulated controls.
Nevertheless, the proposed parts will naturally bear all of the mandatory markings except that of the initial manufacturer (compliance with legislation, copyright or other).

Cost: Despite all my efforts/arguments, no additional discount is possible. However, the preferential tariff offered to us represents a saving of 50€ /50 GBP compared to the normal selling price (530€ per pair/275€ per unit). Reasons evoked for being unable to grant a further discount:

• Fairly high risk of erroneous/faulty parts due to the part’s size/shape and low thickness. Moulds only provide a limited number of parts (20 or so), therefore any failure/foul up results in material loss, time loss and drop in mould potential.
• Labour intensive process, set-up and machine times (casting, heat treatment).
• Raw material costs.

Bear in mind that this part is no longer available (apart from a breakers yard) and of course new.

I have however his guarantee that we will benefit – for all orders – from the initially proposed preferential price of 480 € (Euros) per pair and 250€ (Euros) per unit (irrespective of side). Prices are inclusive of VAT. This applies to a “Group purchase” of a minimum of 15 pairs.

Any “outsider” (individual purchase) will have to pay 530€ per pair and 275€ per unit for the same articles.

The “Group purchase” – if it goes ahead – would be subject to a downpayment (advance) of 35% (although he’d accept 25%) representing a purchase commitment on the part of the buyers. This sum would naturally be deducted from the final sum. The outstanding balance would be payable just prior to dispatch from his premises.
Therefore, subject to the chosen percentage (35% or 25%) each buyer would have to make a downpayment of 168€ (35%) or 120€ (25%) in order to secure the order. If the supplier is willing to accept 25%, then I suggest that we go for this.

Delivery time: As previously mentioned, this would be roughly 2 months after receipt of order (excluding national holidays and the usual 2 to 4 weeks holiday period – July, August or September).

Dispatch : To avoid all hassle/complication for the supplier, he would prefer to dispatch to a single location (centralisation) which would be easier for him (especially with “Brexit” coming up OR NOT!! as regards the UK).

I’d be willing to act as a receiving and dispatch point.

Transportation & packaging costs to me would naturally be in addition as would be the Postage & packaging costs for sending out to each person. These costs would have to be worked out and agreed upon.

I guess this is time to s**t or get off the pot.

I’m still in, on the basis of getting sufficient takers to do likewise.

John (BCN)
Just to put matters right, I consider that all those who initially expressed their interest (17 then 4) should now confirm that they are willing to go ahead (as John-W says "on the basis of sufficient takers") and on the basis of my detailed write-up stating price, delivery time, transport from supplier and postage/packaging to final destination. Therefore, would the latter please reconfirm that they would like to place a firm order. So far I have three (3) - Richard K, John_W and LRS7 - members who are ready to go ahead. Many thanks in advance to you all. Add yourself to the new list and delete from the old one.
